@HurricaneIslnd is an #offgrid and #sustainable community. We have so many systems in place to help us be more sustainable including solar panels, a closed-loop wastewater treatment plan, and a beautiful garden to source our veggies. https://t.co/z9e7ztL74a
@HurricaneIslnd has an extensive history dating back to the 1800’s when quarrymen would blast granite and carve it right on the island. Granite from Hurricane is now all over the world including cobblestones in Havana, Cuba and building bricks in the St. Louis Post Office.
Did you know @HurricaneIslnd is located 12 miles off the coast of Rockland and is right next to Vinalhaven? The island is 1 mile wide and 3 miles long, and 125 acres.
Thanks @HurricaneIslnd staff for the experiences for our K-12 teachers immersed in biology, ecology, geology, sustainability, human history, leadership, equity & lesson development. You pushed many of us beyond what is comfortable & familiar while still being warm & inviting.
LOVING the next #UPGSustainability Leaders, we're talking as part of their prep en route to @HurricaneIslnd. Blown away by what they do for #SDGs: their energy, commitment, ambition and diversity. Teachers, doctors, entrepreneurs, more #futureisbrightgreen https://t.co/jh5WvQc8v0
