Everyone's arguing about whether cold storage is "broken." Both sides are wrong.

Coldcard wasn't a cold storage failure. A 2021 firmware error routed seed generation to a software PRNG instead of the chip's hardware RNG. Key strength dropped from 128 bits to as low as 40. The keys were guessable from the day they were created.

Nobody breached an air gap. There was nothing to breach. Attackers regenerated candidate seeds offline and checked them against the public chain. 5,200+ addresses, ~1,816 BTC.
So the panic is misplaced — and so is the "nothing to see here."

The real lesson: trust never disappeared. It moved. From a bank's balance sheet to one vendor's RNG initialisation code, where almost nobody was auditing it. Correctness isn't a user behaviour, it's an architecture. Multisig across independently designed devices with independent entropy. No single implementation load-bearing.

And this compounds. Every KYC/AML obligation creates another retained dataset, and Travel Rule requirements copy it between institutions. Note the mechanism though — it's retention, not regulation. You can prove "verified, not sanctioned" without storing the raw documents. Most don't, because a readable table is cheap and auditors like it.

Then layer AI: that Coldcard bug sat in open-source code for five years. Automated auditing finds the next dormant flaw in weeks. Defenders and attackers both — but attackers only need one.

Quantum is real and it is not now. ~25% of BTC sits in addresses with exposed public keys. That's a 5-15 year migration problem, not a 2026 emergency. Overstate it and technical people stop listening.

The worst strategic move Iran could make right now would be agreeing to a temporary ceasefire. A short-term pause—such as a two-week arrangement—doesn’t resolve the conflict; it simply resets the clock. It gives the United States time to regroup, reposition, and potentially escalate operations with greater effectiveness once hostilities resume.

Unless there are enforceable, long-term guarantees, a ceasefire risks becoming a tactical disadvantage rather than a step toward peace. In conflicts like this, trust is not a given—it must be secured through binding commitments, not assumptions.

A more rational position would be to push directly for a permanent agreement without an interim ceasefire. Anything less creates a window of vulnerability, where one side can exploit the pause to shift the balance of power.
