Read our latest book, Undoing the Grade by @Jessifer: "The word 'ungrading' means raising an eyebrow at grades as a systemic practice, distinct from simply 'not grading.' The word is a present participle, an ongoing process, not a static set of practices." https://t.co/TNJ2b3lxOQ

Are you a teacher in higher education looking for support? Are you a graduate student wondering how you can get more preparation for the work of teaching? Your institution’s teaching center can probably help, except…
To me, ungrading means raising an eyebrow at grades as a system, and doing whatever we can to knock down the barriers that grades present to the work of teaching and learning. @Jessifer https://t.co/4mORj2TiwA
What is ungrading? Why and how might academics use it?

"Our conversations are never really about what we say they're about. But we circle around a topic in really productive ways."
I adore talking with @bonni208 for @tihighered. This episode is about ungrading, S-chool, what education is for, and more: https://t.co/3CfBQmR6hh
I'm currently reading a book on critical pedagogy, and this quote embodies so much of who I strive to be as an educator:
"Education must be a practice done with hearts as much as heads, with hands as much as books. Care has to be at the center of this work." @Jessifer et al.
So proud of the work that has been published by Hybrid Pedagogy since 2011. Almost 500 articles by over 250 authors. And these seven books gather together many of those authors and a generous handful of others.
Hybrid Pedagogy is currently focusing on longer form publications. Just a few weeks ago, we published Undoing the Grade: Why We Grade, and How to Stop.
Over the last 5 years, we have published 7 print books. Follow the link to see our full catalogue. https://t.co/aapSF0lHus
Open Online Office Hours: Ungrading Edition
Join me for a special series of conversations about grading and assessment throughout Fall 2023. These will be generative conversations, shaped by participants, without predetermined outcomes.

"The moves back toward supposed 'business as usual' have been made at the expense of marginalized students, staff, and faculty. We need to talk openly about different ways forward. And we need to be patient with ourselves and with each other." @Jessifer
https://t.co/3VedKpPCPs
"Many students don’t know where they'll find their next meal. The most marginalized are finding themselves and their work increasingly policed — by faculty members, by administrative policies, by ed-tech 'solutions,' and by the actual police." @Jessifer
https://t.co/3VedKpPCPs
"As humans, as teachers, and as members of learning communities, we need to look around and be honest about the damage the last several years have wrought." @Jessifer
https://t.co/3VedKpPCPs
Ungrading is an equitable practice because grades do harm. And marginalized students are the students most harmed by grades. Finding ways to reduce that harm, and to begin to dismantle grades as a system, is imperative if equity or justice is our goal. https://t.co/aBFd7VF4FP
An excerpt from the most recent book we published, Undoing the Grade by @Jessifer, with a foreword by Martha Burtis and an afterword by Sean Michael Morris.
For ungrading to be equitable, we can’t merely ask students to grade themselves, but must work together with students to interrogate and dismantle grades as a system. https://t.co/vxmZbvAxJK
"You can’t ungrade away a broken assignment. You can’t ungrade away a lack of care for your students. You can’t ungrade away pedagogy that is rooted in wielding power over students." ~ Martha Burtis
