Tune-in to @WMO at 2pm CET for the launch of their #StateofClimate report on climate & health action.
#IPCC’s Synthesis Report identified the increase of the days per year where heat-humidity poses risks to human health without additional adaptation.

@h2obabyts I couldn’t agree more. Making that switch and navigating life in industry isn’t for everyone. Realistically most academics struggle in industry running their own businesses. Worse still, some still hope to return to university in the future. A divided mindset and frustration.
Falling behind: postdocs in their thirties tire of putting life on hold.

The last bar on the right represents the temperature anomaly wrt pre-industial for the month of September 2023. Words can't easily convey how abnormally large this is: by far the warmest September on record; no other month ever reached anomalies as large. @CopernicusECMWF
Climate change is simple.
We started burning fossil fuels during the industrial revolution, adding extra carbon dioxide to the atmosphere.
As a direct consequence - due to well understood physics - global temperatures started to increase.
We are now experiencing the consequences.
A heatwave will grip Mediterranean region next 2 weeks, says WMO regional center @DWD. Max temps above 35–40 °C, and in Middle East and southeastern Türkiye, up to 45 °C. Extreme heat also in North Africa. #StateOfClimate. Stay tuned for updates. https://t.co/NUYlNuoO7D
Unofficial records suggest that in recent days the global average temperature was the warmest that has ever been directly measured. What does that mean? 🧵
@elonmusk As an academic and scientist my feed is way better now. It’s depressing when my feed was all wars, politics, etc. Unwanted trends were forcefully pushed to my feed in the previous version of Twitter.
🌡️ Every increment of warming results in rapidly escalating hazards.
More intense heatwaves, heavier rainfall & other weather extremes further increase risks for human health & ecosystems.
