Last Friday, we were honoured to participate in the Philippine flag raising at City Hall, celebrating the rich culture, history, and contributions of the Filipino community.
As I was unable to attend, Deputy Mayor Dodic shared remarks on behalf of the City recognizing the importance of this day and the vibrant Filipino community that continues to shape our city.
This year’s celebration was especially meaningful as we recognize Councillor Rufa Doria, the first Filipino Councillor in Alberta — a historic milestone and a proud moment for our community.
Mabuhay!

Today, we pause to remember the courage, sacrifice, and determination of those who took part in D-Day on June 6, 1944.
On the beaches of Normandy, thousands of Allied soldiers, including more than 14,000 brave Canadians, faced unimaginable danger in the fight for freedom. Many never returned home, and their sacrifice helped change the course of history.
As we mark this important anniversary, we honour the veterans who served, those who gave their lives, and the families who carried their legacy forward. Their bravery reminds us that freedom is never free and that we all share a responsibility to protect the values of democracy, peace, and unity.
Lest we forget. 🇨🇦

Mental Health Week | May 4–10
This week marks Mental Health Week in Canada, led by the Canadian Mental Health Association, with this year’s theme: “Come Together, Canada.”
Connection matters. Whether it’s a conversation with a friend, checking in on a neighbour, or simply sharing a smile—these small moments can make a big difference in someone’s life.
Here in Lethbridge, we know that a strong community is built on kindness, compassion, and looking out for one another. Let’s take time this week to reach out, listen, and support those around us.
A few simple ways to take part:
• Call or visit someone you haven’t connected with in a while
• Spend time outdoors with family or friends
• Offer a kind word or lend a helping hand
• Take a moment for your own mental well-being
No one should feel alone. Together, we can build a more connected, caring, and resilient community.

Today we wear green.
On Green Shirt Day, we honour the legacy of Logan Boulet and the Humboldt Broncos. We wear green to recognize the profound impact one person can have.
Logan’s selfless act of organ donation inspired thousands of Canadians to register as donors, creating the “Logan Boulet Effect” and giving hope to so many families.
Let’s continue this legacy by registering as an organ donor and having important conversations with our loved ones about our wishes. Together, we can save lives and make a difference.

We’re sending a huge Lethbridge cheer all the way to Italy as Lethbridge-born athlete Taylor Austin hits the ice track with Team Canada Bobsleigh.
Taylor made his Olympic debut in Beijing 2022, piloting both the two‑man and four‑man sleds. Originally recruited to bobsleigh after playing football at the University of Calgary, he rose quickly through the North American Cup circuit—earning multiple overall titles—before making his World Cup debut in 2022.

With so much uncertainty and division in the world today, I was reminded of something simple and powerful when I came across an image from a post I shared five years ago:
“Let’s begin being kind to one another — this is how we begin to change the state of the world.”
Real change doesn’t always start in big institutions or global decisions. It starts in everyday moments — how we speak to each other, how we listen, how we show patience, and how we choose compassion over criticism.
Our community is strongest when we lead with kindness. A small act — a smile, a helping hand, a thoughtful word — can reach further than we ever know.
Let’s continue to build a city where respect, care, and understanding lead the way. It starts with each of us. 🤍

Today is World Cancer Day — a day that touches nearly every family, every workplace, every community, including ours here in Lethbridge.
Cancer is more than a diagnosis. It’s a word that carries fear, uncertainty, and heartbreak — but also courage, resilience, and hope. Today we recognize those who are bravely fighting, those who have survived, and those we have lost. We also stand with the families, friends, caregivers, and medical professionals who walk this difficult road alongside them.
I’ve met many members of our community whose strength in the face of cancer is nothing short of inspiring. Their stories remind us that behind every statistic is a person — deeply loved, fiercely missed, and never forgotten.
Let today be a reminder to check in on one another, to support local cancer initiatives, to encourage screening and early detection, and to show compassion whenever we can. Small acts of kindness matter more than we know.
To everyone affected by cancer: you are not alone. Our community stands with you — with care, with gratitude, and with hope. 💛
