On November 24, 1963, Jacqueline Kennedy spent a few private moments beside the casket of her husband, President John F. Kennedy. Before his body was taken from the White House to lie in state at the U.S. Capitol, Jackie reportedly placed several personal items inside his casket.
Among them were a pair of gold cuff links, a silver rosary, a scrimshaw engraved with the presidential seal, and a PT-109 tie clip. The tie clip represented Kennedy’s service during World War II, when the patrol boat he commanded was struck and sunk by a Japanese destroyer. Kennedy helped lead his surviving crewmen to safety.
Jackie also reportedly placed a handwritten letter inside the casket. It was a final, deeply personal message to the husband she had suddenly lost. Unlike the countless photographs, speeches, and documents surrounding Kennedy’s death, the letter was never intended for the public.
In the days following the assassination, Jackie remained remarkably composed in public. She famously continued wearing the bloodstained pink suit she had worn beside Kennedy in Dallas, saying she wanted people to see what had happened.
The casket was eventually sealed, carrying those personal objects and Jackie’s private farewell with it. On November 25, Kennedy was taken by horse-drawn caisson through Washington before being buried at Arlington National Cemetery.

Eric Idle alongside former Beatle George Harrison in costume on the set of the 1978 film Monty Python's Life of Brian. When original backers EMI Films pulled funding just days before filming began, Eric Idle reached out to his close friend George Harrison. Harrison raised roughly $4.5 million (£2 million) by mortgaging his Friar Park estate and business properties to finance the entire movie.. ....
The money was supposed to come from EMI, the British company that had backed the Pythons before. Then the company’s chief read the script. A comedy about a man mistaken for the Messiah scared him off, and he pulled out just as the crew was getting ready to fly to Tunisia.
Idle told his friend Harrison, a longtime fan of the group, what had happened. Harrison set up a film company with his business manager, Denis O’Brien, and put up about 3 million pounds.
Filming took place in Monastir, Tunisia, from September to November 1978, on sets left over from a serious TV series about the life of Jesus. The photo shows Idle and Harrison on location.
Harrison even has a tiny part. He plays Mr. Papadopoulos, who shakes Brian’s hand in a crowd scene. His one word, “’ullo,” was dubbed by Michael Palin.
The film came out in 1979. Some towns in Britain banned it, as did Norway and Ireland. Sweden advertised it as “so funny it was banned in Norway.”
It earned back far more than it cost.
The company Harrison started for this film, HandMade Films, went on to make “Time Bandits” and “Withnail and I.”
