I was really one of the “either” students until my coursemates unanimously decided never to believe my “either” again. They mtcheeeeeeeeeeewed at every either, and I won’t blame them.

In my experience, when top students say, “either,” it just means that they have given a physical form to their preparations. But in their minds, they have either been preparing or have been filtering what exactly must be read when they decide to. It doesn’t matter if it is just minutes to the test. And most times, they’re bang on the money with their predictions. It isn’t accidental, though. It is a matter of data.

They attended lectures, studied the lecturers, know the relationship between the lecturer and the lectures, plus have access to the stories of other top students who have been at that level before. When you put all these data together, they can precisely determine what part of the course makes up the 20 out of Pareto’s 80:20 ratio. They’ll do that while you probably struggle with trying to read it all from the beginning.

Yes, they might be honest that they haven’t started either. I was honest in my case. The problem is that when they start, they start at a different starting point, often closer to the finish line. And it makes all the difference.

One of the reasons you should have a top student friend, even if you’re a top student too. They can sense closer starting points.
