@Chooselife63@CurtisDaly_ That plus exposes like TSP gave me a significantly worse impression of him. Whenever Corbyn's leadership made self-destructive concessions to the Labour right, McDonnell was usually at the heart of it.
@Chooselife63@CurtisDaly_ I'll be honest, I chiefly remember him asking members for more solidarity than he and other MPs were prepared to offer in return as the early Starmer years started to make it clear that the party was fully embracing institutional bigotry.
@Chooselife63@CurtisDaly_ Also, he's a coward. That may sound harsh, but histories of the Corbyn era (and my own encounters with him in Momentum group-chats) make it clear that McDonnell never has anyone's back when it actually matters. Oliver Eagleton's The Starmer Project is especially damning on this.
@GaryLesterStar@SethAbramson Consider that Mamdani is chiefly being called a 'pro-terrorist antisemite' by the same political faction that is enthusiastically backing genocide. They, uh, may not be the most reliable sources on this matter.
@KitKlarenberg Could be one of those rare times when the media didn't see this coming either and are as curious as the rest of us about what the fuck is going on.
@simonmaginn@gem_ste Considering how open a secret it is that Starmer's marriage is a sham and he's carrying on with Jenny Chapman, I wonder if his wife was getting a bit bored at home?
@broseph_stalin The important thing is that they view the UK being forced to nationalise water as a defeat more severe than their MPs and councillors being kicked out of their seats and into water company directorships.
@CypressDahlia A megabuilding apartment is at least better armoured than most available homes in GTA. Some dipshit could mail-order a tank airdrop on your roof and you'd only hear about it on the news a few days later.
@Zoeycialist@edr13332146 @_georgeabby I mean, if the media is going to start calling you Stalinist anyway, that does open up an exciting new box of dirty tricks for you to play with...
@fromarsetoelbow So long as they only call him mean names for departing for Canada, does it matter? America seems to be adopting a more hostile stance towards its northern neighbour, but it's not clear whether that will be affected by a few fleeing academics or will significantly affect them.
@schwarz@flying_rodent No need for a global Great Depression when a capitalist state will eventually just eat itself until it serves too few people to keep sustaining the pretence of democracy.
@schwarz@flying_rodent Fascism always presented itself as protecting the middle class and big business against an underclass that had expanded thanks to the fallout of capitalist policy. Modern America demonstrates that capitalist states will eventually autocannibalise even without external shocks.
@Frances_Coppola Labour are led by hardcore Atlanticists. I assume that they're trying to figure out what kind of expensive, degrading ritual they need to perform to remain friends and allies of America, regardless of what it's up to in Eastern Europe.
