@AfroFlytina I noticed him watching me during a date, & I wasn’t used to guys paying close attention. I asked why he was staring. He just smiled said “I adore you.” He prayed over me that night as well. Married 16 years on 7/9. ❤️ Still 1 of my best decisions ever.

I had a student I taught 12 years ago come up to me today and say “thank you…my success today all started in your journalism class when you believed in me” and honestly, I told him thank you for letting me be your teacher. Best. Feeling. Ever.

So, I passed out sticky notes and said, “This is between you & me. If I can help, let me know. One student misses her mom who she doesn’t live with anymore. Another wanted to be accepted for their identity. One wanted grade help. Another feels the pressure of work and school...👇🏾

Most said yes. Some said no. My follow up question was: “What is something someone could do for you today that would make you feel loved? Of course, there were jokes, but a few responses broke my heart. “Give me a hug,” “Listen to me,” “Ask me how I’m doing.”👇🏾

Every day, @JeffCher tells the students and faculty “You are safe. You are loved.” Every day I do a temperature check with my students and, I’ll be honest, I breeze through it some days. Today, I did a poll. “Do you feel safe today? Do you feel loved?” 👇🏾

@SWS_FASTLab Years ago I was broke and needed to get home. A regular where I bartended gave me a check for $300 & told me to pay it forward. Two years ago my neighbor needed to get home to her dying mom. I knocked on her door and handed her a check for $300 w/a note saying the same.
