Hull City's defensive structure under Jakirović / Rosenior is why they're surviving in the PL as a promoted side.

It's NOT a low block. It's a controlled mid-block trap.

1/ SHAPE:
On paper 4-2-3-1
Out of possession -> 4-5-1 / 4-4-2

- Double pivot (Slater + Crooks) NEVER leaves gaps between lines
- Wingers (Belloumi, Millar) drop to make a 5 in midfield
- Forces teams WIDE. You won't play through Hull centrally.

2/ FULL-BACKS:
Coyle (RB) + Giles/Targett (LB) don't bomb forward like modern FBs. They tuck in narrow, stay compact with Egan & Hughes.

That means when they lose it, there's no space behind. They conceded 66 in Championship last year because Coyle/Drameh were too attacking. Fixed it now.

3/ PRESSING TRIGGER:
They don't press high. They wait until you enter midfield, THEN Seri/McBurnie spring the trap and force you into wide areas.

Result? 42% possession, 1 goal conceded in first 2 PL games, 2-0 win vs Man Utd using it.

4/ Why it works:
- McBurnie as first defender - wins aerials, forces long balls
- Egan + Hughes patient - don't dive in, clear vs play short depending on pressure
- 3-5-2 variant vs big wingers (Saka, Doku) - adds extra CB to protect Coyle

Pragmatic. Not pretty. But for Hull to stay up, defensive cohesion > possession.

That's why they went from conceding 66 to 1 in 2 games.
