I honestly don’t care who tries to twist it or dress it up differently but to me the truth remains that former President Jacob Zuma was badly treated by the political elites, technocrats, and the entire state machinery. From his days as Deputy President under Mbeki, right through to when he won at Polokwane in 2007 and later became President of the Republic, the system worked overtime to humiliate, frustrate, and undermine him at every turn. I’m not saying JZ was perfect; absolutely not, he had his own faults and made his own mistakes but let’s be honest, he was up against a powerful establishment that never accepted him as the rightful president. Most of those in key state and bureaucratic positions were Mbeki loyalists, many of whom had been appointed by him for that matter starting even way back during Mandela’s presidency and carried that allegiance through. That’s my firm view, and if you listen carefully to Mkhwanazi’s response to Malema, it only reinforces what I’m saying.
