Here’s a cut from the new album… #GetDownTonight (Chillwave Groove)
Writing hiphop is way more complex and takes more time than writing R&B records. At least (Real Lyrical content). With soul music/ R&B; the feeling and melody can carry the song. With rap (for me) it’s always been about the poetry.
Also one of the reason I mixed them all is because I release every synch on digital platforms for listeners to Shazam & purchase. Some under different pseudonyms depending on the genre. And create the cover art. It definitely can be exhausted, but worth it.
Just did a crazy couple tracks for some synchs… which I then have to write, perform, mix & master. I understand why the older you get as a producer, you have a team around. It’s exhausting doing everything yourself. Be nice just to focus on the production from time to time
Try everything!!! Atleast once. Step out your comfort zone, see if it works even if you don’t understand it at first site. Or you could miss out on the biggest Love of your life. Music, it’s all a blind date. Eyes closed, fall in… could meet that ONE ☝🏾
There’s records I would send to artist, very raw (lot of times they didn’t see the vision) I’d tell them, “do you, I’m gonna add an polish this but let’s get the idea down.” This process is rare now…
hard to find that trust now. I would say most the records artist turned down, later were my biggest synchs or placements. I don’t blame them, the (Not knowing) of it all is a scary concept to grasp. but I will say…
Well said… it’s why I honestly don’t debate music anymore with those who critique but never wrote a single lyric or composed a song. Sh*ts wild out here.
Since nobody is actually answering, here:
it’s because he perfectly blended elite technical rap ability with song writing ability.
U don’t know, threat, to songs like ignorant shit, features like God Did, Drug Dealers Anonymous, the consistent theme is: rhyme patterns, metaphors, ACTUAL double entendres, introspection/depth, mixed with outrageous shit talking.
Then you got songs like lost ones, never change, no hook, 4:44, Marcy me which have all of those things above and more.
Ima be real tho if you’re a fan of rap and you hear these songs above and don’t see why people call him the greatest, you might not love rap music as much as you think you do.
@guttaboi81 Yea. No R&B or soul records. Maybe one joint I’ll sing will be alternative . Most of the record is hiphop . With other rappers featuring . Some I’ll just produce
My new album is different than anything I put out in past. A musical collage of sounds: a lil jazz, some Lo-fi but Mostly hiphop. And for the first time, a bunch of features from other artist. That’s been the hardest part of this…
