The Market Is Sending a Message — Are You Paying Attention? 📊
This was one of those weeks where simply looking at the S&P 500 doesn’t tell you the whole story.
The S&P 500 finished the week almost flat, down roughly 0.1%. The Dow lost 1.7%, while the Nasdaq actually gained 0.7%. That divergence matters.
The biggest story wasn’t any individual stock.
It was interest rates.
The Federal Reserve raised rates by 25 basis points this week, bringing the federal funds target range to 3.75%–4.00%. At the same time, the 10-year Treasury yield moved back toward the 5% level.
Higher yields change the equation for equities—especially high-valuation growth stocks. Yet the Nasdaq’s relative strength this week tells me investors still aren’t walking away from growth and technology altogether.
That’s why I’m not looking at this market as simply bullish or bearish.
I’m watching where the money is moving.
Going into next week, these are the four things on my radar:
📌 1. The 10-year Treasury yield
If yields remain around or above 5%, valuation pressure could remain a major factor for growth stocks.
📌 2. Technology and AI
Tech has shown relative strength, but sentiment around AI has become more complicated. I’m watching whether buyers continue defending the strongest names rather than assuming the entire sector moves together.
📌 3. Oil and inflation
Oil has been swinging around the $100+ area, and that matters. Higher energy costs can feed inflation expectations, which in turn affect rates, bonds and equity valuations.
📌 4. Market breadth
Indexes can look healthy while many individual stocks are struggling. On Friday, the S&P 500 and Nasdaq finished higher even though the majority of stocks declined. That’s exactly why I’m paying more attention to leadership and breadth instead of blindly chasing an index.
My approach right now is simple:
Don’t predict. Observe.
Don’t chase. Wait for confirmation.
Follow price, volume, leadership and sentiment.
Volatility creates noise—but it also creates opportunity for investors who stay disciplined.
What are you watching next week: tech, energy, small caps, or something else? 👇
