Labour’s controversial Islamophobia definition — and the process by which it came to be — stinks more and more of a cover-up every day.

It was bad enough that Angela Rayner appointed five individuals to the Working Group tasked with drafting the definition, all of whom had troubling links to Islamist organisations, including the Muslim Council of Britain and MEND.

Now, thanks to a Freedom of Information request by Shadow Justice Secretary Nick Timothy, it has emerged that every submission to the Working Group’s consultation was deleted — apparently in breach of the Government’s own data policy.

At every turn, Labour ministers have refused to answer straightforward questions from parliamentarians and key stakeholders such as the Free Speech Union.

Who submitted evidence to the consultation? Did extremists have an opportunity to influence the drafting of the definition? Did ministers instruct officials to delete every response?

It has also been revealed that the Government pressed the Equality and Human Rights Commission to accept the proposed definition, despite the EHRC’s objections.

The EHRC and the Free Speech Union repeatedly warned that the definition was unnecessary and would have a chilling effect on free speech. Laws already exist to protect people from religious hatred and discrimination. If Labour genuinely cared about tackling actual instances of anti-Muslim hatred, it would focus on enforcing those laws.

Instead, it is sacrificing free speech on the altar of electoral ambition.

Writing in The Critic, Nick Timothy says: “This pernicious definition is being used exactly as we said it would — to conflate religion and race and silence discussion of Islam.”

When Nick criticised a mass Muslim public prayer event in Trafalgar Square, he was branded Islamophobic, reported to the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards and even faced calls to resign from then Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer.

As he writes: “Time and again, those of us who have raised concerns that this definition — which the Government is formally recommending all public and private organisations adopt — may restrict free speech have been ignored.”

Ministers insist the definition will not chill free speech. Yet Bridget Phillipson used the dispatch box to call Nick racist, then refused to correct the record or apologise.

Labour must come clean about who helped draft this new Islamic blasphemy law — and why it went ahead with it.

Labour has introduced an Islamic blasphemy law via the back door — and it is already having a chilling effect on free speech.

The “anti-Muslim hostility” definition, formerly known as Islamophobia, is being adopted by police forces, prosecutors, courts and the NHS, as well as private-sector organisations and charities.

It will make it even harder to discuss the fundamental challenges we face, like Islamist extremism, and national scandals such as the grooming gangs, with those who speak out fearful of being branded “Islamophobic”.

As Shadow Justice Secretary Nick Timothy says: “It’s a get-out-of-jail-free card for extremists.”

Not only did the Government appoint a working group whose five members had troubling links to Islamist organisations; it also deleted every response to the Working Group’s consultation. It is now almost certain that extremists were able to influence the drafting of the definition.

This is a major cover-up at the heart of government. Government departments are required to retain historical records of those who contributed to key consultations such as this for 20 years.

Angela Rayner has serious questions to answer. The British public deserves to know who drafted Labour’s Islamic blasphemy law.

The Proclaimers are back with a provocative new album, You May Offend, inspired by their anger at the SNP, Western warmongering and the erosion of free speech.

Speaking to The Telegraph, brothers Craig and Charlie Reid branded the trans lobby ‘truth-phobic’.

Addressing the treatment of women who state biological facts, Craig said: “There’s women, actual women, who are threatened with violence – sometimes get violence – and de-platformed because they have the temerity to say that a woman is an adult human female.

“And they are shouted down by 0.5 per cent in a population who are male and who think that because they put on a dress, and they put on make-up, that that makes them a female.

“People have lost their careers over that. [Graham] Linehan was the obvious one. None of his pals stood up for him. I wouldn’t agree with everything Linehan says any more than I would do with JK Rowling.

“But you’ve got the right to stand up for science and logic. And in his case, it’s a tragedy. He lost his career for telling the truth.”

Explaining why he wrote You May Offend, Craig said: “We’re getting to the stage now where people are getting scared to say what they think because people are being cancelled. Because people have been prosecuted or threatened by prosecution.”

He added that he sympathised with the police, directing his criticism instead towards politicians and vague laws and policing guidance.

“They’re doing that because they’re directed by politicians. They’re scared of seeming transphobic. They’re dancing to the tune, often, of self-interested interest groups.”

However, this is very different! I’ve never done this before but I am asking if there is anyone out there who can help this very brave and eleoquent survivor @fionagoddarduk.

Fiona has had to move from her home for safety reasons following the abhorrent release of her vile rapists under this abomination that is the early release of predatory paedophiles, murderers and child rapists. She has been threatened and lives in real fear of repercussions, and her young children are inevitably hugely affected by this too.

She has 5 young children all under the age of 12, and in just 3 weeks since fleeing her house in fear they have already been moved 3 times through totally unsuitable temporary accommodations as the authorities say they can’t find her and her children a permanent place to settle.

Can anyone help? Her young children deserve a safe and secure home, some stability, to settle in new schools and have some semblance of normality in a life that has been constantly rocked by the experiences their mum has endured, and yet she still fights on to expose the horrors of our broken systems.

This could be an opportunity to break the cycle, but as everyone knows our public services are on their knees and houses IMO are going to the wrong people, and when there’s a real need of help, this just isn’t forthcoming!

We are trying our best to find her somewhere, but the more hands there are to the pump the better chance there is of succeeding.

Fiona is willing to consider a move anywhere. Council house, private rental, anywhere in the Uk . For all those who may be in a position to help, feel free to contact either me in a DM or Fiona on X too.

As a former police sergeant who policed football matches in Bristol, I know the basic principles of public-order policing.

When you have opposing groups with the potential for confrontation, you keep them apart.

That’s basic tactical policing: separation, controlled movement and preventing confrontation before it happens.

So allowing opposing factions at an immigration protest to meet head-on seems completely at odds with those principles and police tactics.
