@parttime56 Thus his place in my ranking. He’s still only 17 and will be a long term development project for the Flames. I can see him playing 2 more seasons in the WHL, then 2-3 seasons in the NCAA.
@BCyrus_12 I don't care what round a player is drafted. It's what they do on the ice that counts. They both have size (although Suniev is sturdier) and skating ability.
My ranking of the Flames current LW prospects (not counting Matvei Gridin, as I believe he is a lock to make the Flames 2026-27 roster):
1. Potter (as LW, not C)
2. Wyttenbach
3. Suniev
4. Honzek
5. Stromgren
6. Othmann
7. Harrington
8. Katolicky
@BCyrus_12 Honzek has been injured in each of his last 4 hockey seasons.
Games played per season (including playoff games):
2022-23 47
2023-24 41
2024-25 59
2025-26 18
@BCyrus_12 I hope I am wrong. But I don't see Honzek as an effective second or third line NHL LW. He is tall & slight, has a muffin of a shot, lacks the physicality to win board battles and is injury prone. Suniev is sturdier, has a great shot, goes to the net and is way more physical.
@BCyrus_12 Honzek better in the AHL?
Honzek is 21. Has scored 8 goals & 21 points in 57 AHL games (including 3 playoff games).
Suniev is 21. Has scored 16 goals & 24 points in 57 AHL games.
Stromgren is 23. Has scored 33 goals & 127 points in 214 AHL games (including 8 playoff games).
Describe a Liberal politician from eastern Canada.
They ride a gentle horse in the Calgary Stampede Parade, wearing a cowboy hat, western shirt, jeans, leather belt & leather cowboy boots, while eating a veggie burger, because they claim to be against cruelty to animals.
@BCyrus_12 I believe Suniev, Honzek and Stromgren are all competing for the 3rd line LW role on the Flames (playing with Backlund and Farabee, assuming Coleman is traded). I believe Suniev’s style fits that role the best.
@thegatorswamp2 Sam Morton and Rory Kerins have mostly played as centres for the AHL Wranglers. Kerins has played a few games at LW for the Flames, but is a natural centre.
