Billionaires didn't take us off the 'gold standard' in the 70's, then destroy the value of the dollar through profligate, inflationary spending. Billionaires haven't taxed the citizenry right to the limits of what they can bear, then used that money to enhance their own power, reward their supporters, and enrich themselves. The government did all that.
