@QueitMiddleWing History is a little more complicated than “Liberals spend, Conservatives fix.”
Both parties have run deficits. Both parties have expanded trade with the U.S. Both parties helped build the economy we have today.
The world is rarely that simple.
@QueitMiddleWing Canada’s dependence on the U.S. wasn’t created by one party. It’s the product of geography, history, and decades of decisions made by governments of all political stripes. Pretending otherwise might feel satisfying, but it isn’t serious analysis.
@greg_scott84@Darayushd Thanks, Greg. I appreciate that. I think we miss having conversations like this. We don't have to agree on everything, but it's refreshing to be able to discuss difficult topics without assuming the worst about each other.
@greg_scott84@Darayushd That's a fair distinction. But even if I accept that Azov's integration into Ukraine's military is a serious problem, I'm not convinced it follows that a full-scale invasion was the appropriate solution.
@greg_scott84@Darayushd If Azov means all of Ukraine is Nazi, then what do Russian neo-Nazi groups like Rusich say about Russia? We should apply the same standard to both sides.
@greg_scott84@Darayushd There were extremists in Donbas, just as there are extremists in many countries, including Russia. The question isn't whether they existed—it's whether their existence justified a full-scale invasion. That's where most people disagree.
@greg_scott84@Darayushd Crimea and Yanukovych matter, but they don't explain the entire war. The real dispute is whether the Crimea referendum was legitimate, and even accepting it as legitimate doesn't automatically justify the 2022 invasion.
