🇹🇭Thailand: Together with @TheLawSociety and @IBAHRI, we are deeply concerned by the continued criminal prosecution, fair trial violations and cumulative prison sentences imposed on #ArnonNampa for the peaceful exercise of his rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly.

Arnon Nampa, a lawyer and founding member of @TLHR2014, faces 38 criminal cases, including 14 under Section 112 (#lèsemajesté), arising from peaceful speeches and online expression advocating democratic reform. If his conviction is upheld, his cumulative prison sentence will increase to 31 years, 9 months and 20 days.

His repeated prosecutions, prolonged detention, denial of bail and ongoing disbarment proceedings raise serious concerns that criminal proceedings are being used to punish the legitimate exercise of #freedomofexpression and to deter lawyers and human rights defenders from participating in public debate.

Ahead of the Court of Appeal judgment on 16 July, we urge the authorities to ensure proceedings fully comply with international human rights law and that lawyers can carry out their professional duties free from intimidation, harassment or undue interference.
