L. Robert hitting .204 w 77 OPS+
Brandon Marsh at .253/87
They’re the same age. Luis had one good year in ‘23. Marsh has 7.2 WAR/~115 OPS+ since arriving in 2022. Robert has a 9.6/106 mark in the same time.
Marsh’23-24
3.4/126 OPS+
3.1/105 3 Rbase 7 Rfld
LouBob’23-24
5.3/130 1 Rba 7 Rfld, AS GG
1.4/86 OPS+
Why was Marsh, at age 27 and only expected to be the Phillies 6-7th best player, given such a short leash? He’s given incredible production for a 6-7. For Johan Rojas??? This is how teams implode for no reason.
Robert is a totally manufactured need. There was and is no outfield problem. Except to not screw up Brandon Marsh’s career. Sent him to the minors for God’s sake. Now talk of giving up prospects for Lou Bob. What a nightmare.
@CREID2852@low_and_outside Hard to blame them. Jones kinda had that aura about him though with what he did in Chicago. I happened to read all about the FL/AL/NL StL wars bc of Armando Marsans.
It also opens up more money to hire analysts and the amenities they require. Sabermetricians have been bragging for two decades about taking jobs from ex-players while taunting and publicly humiliating them. Anyone believe they think any differently about the current players?

Business owners maximize revenues regardless of expenses. What a team spends on a player doesn’t affect what they charge fans. Advocating players get paid less achieves nothing except for a desire that owners keep a larger portion of revenues.
You better believe your favorite analytics department and people from your favorite stats websites are advising the owners on all this and have been for a decade or more. Actively contradicting their stated political beliefs to do so. Which is just indicative of the larger culture of deceit and fraud that permeates the analytics community.

What are your guys’ thoughts on this?
Owners are pushing to limit Free Agent contracts to 5 years, unless they stay with their team, then they can go to 6 years
AAVs are about to be $80M+ a year if this happens 😂
Same with Pie Traynor and many others. Fellas like us and the guy I quoted understand the nuances inherently. I’m Babe Ruth no 1 all day but he is overrated statistically. The whole “he hit more HR than full teams” is a testament to how ahead of his time he was more than his talent, which was immense.
Have you adjusted park effects by handedness? DiMaggio loses ~15 pts off his career OPS+ due to Yankee Stadium. Many other such cases by handedness in history.

I’m sure we’re going to see the org’s analytics departments speak out in favor of the players against the owners. As much as they brag about their Ivy League pedigree, they’ll want to be on the right side of history. Probably on the 4th of July for America 250.
