The Independent Complaints Commission (ICC) was established under Section 128 of Malawi’s Police Act 2010 to provide civilian oversight to law enforcement.

Our mandate is to receive and investigate complaints against police officers and the police service. The aim is to promote professionalism, accountability and respect for the rule of law and human rights in the policing functions.
On 2 February, 2023, we received a huge financial boost from the US Department of State INL through the @undpmalawi to support our operations in driving our mandate of providing civilian oversight over the police.

ICC cherishes the good relationship and support it gets from partners that are committed to promote professionalism, accountability and respect to the rule of law and human rights among police officers and the Malawi Police Service in the country.
We are at Lilongwe Police Station in Lilongwe spreading the word about ICC to police officers. We believe that raising awareness among the officers is fundamental in promoting professionalism, discipline, respect to rule of law and human rights in police functions. #dziwanizaicc
He said while opening the five-day-long orientation that the training has been organized in response to concerns raised by the public regarding conduct of police officers in the country.

We are speaking to traffic police officers at Mtakataka Police Training School in Dedza where a Customer Care Training organized by the Malawi Police Service is underway.
Deputy Inspector General (Administration), Happy Mkandawire, says the training is a new approach “to be happening once in a while to remind each other on issues of professionalism.”
