Minister @em_saeed held bilateral discussions with India’s Minister of Commerce and Industry, HE. @PiyushGoyal, focusing on strengthening trade, investment, and economic cooperation between the Maldives and India, during his official visit to India at the invitation of the Indian Minister. The discussions also reviewed progress on the India–Maldives Free Trade Agreement (IMFTA), which was initiated during the 2024 official visit to India by His Excellency President Dr. @MMuizzu.

We held productive and constructive discussions on advancing the Maldives–India economic partnership, including the ongoing negotiations on the India–Maldives Free Trade Agreement, the finalisation of the Bilateral Investment Treaty, and several new initiatives to strengthen trade, investment and economic cooperation between our two countries.
These efforts reflect our shared commitment to advancing the vision of H.E. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and H.E. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to further deepen the Maldives–India partnership through enhanced economic cooperation and mutually beneficial growth.

India and the Maldives are stepping into a new era of economic partnership. 🇮🇳🤝🇲🇻

Had productive discussions with my good friend, Mr. Mohamed Saeed, Minister of Economic Development, Transport and Trade of the Maldives.

As we celebrate 60 years of diplomatic relations, we reaffirmed our commitment to expediting the signing of the Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT) and the proposed Free Trade Agreement (FTA), while further deepening cooperation in tourism, startups, digital payments, MSMEs, and trade to unlock new opportunities for both our countries.

During the Seafood Expo Bharat 2026 held from 1st - 3rd July in Chennai, MFORMPC in collaboration with @mifcomv showcased the premium canned tuna from Maldives and engaged with potential buyers from the Indian seafood industry.

We also held productive meetings with investors together with @MFAORmv discussing opportunities in the Aquaculture and Seafood processing industry in the Maldives.
