The craziest thing about World Cup month is realizing where you were in life during the last one. Shit I still remember watching my first World Cup game ever. A 4-year gap means your job, your relationship status, your friends, and your entire life situation are completely different, but you're sitting watching a random group stage game at 1 AM on a Tuesday. Football is a time capsule.
My parents used to say this in Chinese that roughly translates to "if you don't have such a big head, don't wear such a big hat."
Many homeowners in Singapore have massive gains on paper through a sharp rise in property value. But yet, they find themselves in even bigger debt as they roll into more expensive property acquisitions.
Part of it is 'wanting better', but also many Singaporeans traditionally see property as the most 'sure-win' way to wealth. Hence overleveraging on property is very common.
People talk about the end goal of 'cashing out' by downgrading and retiring on the cash difference but I have my doubts about that.
Older generation aside, how many from the current generation can really live in something upscale for 20-30 years and then voluntarily downgrade to something smaller and simpler to retire?
Also, dangerous assumption that property prices will climb indefinitely.
For everyone who suffered through 8-2.
For everyone who half 6 at Stamford Bridge in Wenger’s 1,000th game.
For everyone who suffered through Baku.
For everyone who had to go to school after conceding 10 to Bayern.
Today is for you. Drink it all in. We deserve this.
