We have yet to receive a copy of the case file. The Abu Dhabi government is deliberately withholding the allegations and evidence in the #UAE_84 case because it lacks the legal grounds for conviction, and the entire case is rooted in violations.
Rights sources confirmed that the #UAE84 detainees were subjected to prolonged solitary confinement for more than a year, as well as severe torture, before being brought to the second-largest mass trial in the country.
▶️ #Watch: #UN experts urge #UAE authorities to immediately release #UAE84 detainees and bring the country's counter-terrorism legislation fully into line with international law.
▶️ VIDEO: Leading #humanrights lawyer Mohamed Al-Roken has been at the forefront of providing legal assistance to victims of human rights abuses in the #UAE, including to fellow human rights defenders.
In July 2012, a major round-up of human rights defenders and critics of the government took place, including Mohamed Al-Roken. He and the others detained became known as the #UAE94 and were accused of plotting to overthrow the government.
On 2 July 2013, the Federal Supreme Court convicted and sentenced Mohamed Al-Roken to 10 years in prison.
🟠 After serving his 10-year prison term, he was not released but sentenced to life in a new unfair trial known as #UAE84
.@DrAlRoken was suppose to be free on 17th July 2022. He’s been sentenced to life imprisonment as part of the unjust #UAE84 case!
