The largest free-standing timber-frame structure in the world, the Ark consists of 3.1 million board feet of lumber. Laid end to end, this lumber would stretch from Williamstown, Kentucky to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Hundreds of huge beams and logs support the structure. Some of the center “lodge poles,” as seen here, are more than three feet in diameter and nearly 50 feet long!
The wooden “ribs” of the Ark seen in the picture below comprise the bottom of the “bents” that frame the Ark. Each half-bent weighs over 25,000 pounds and utilizes 1,200 pounds of bolts.
Huge thank you to the PUD crews and all local responders working around the clock to restore power and help Leavenworth recover from the storm. We are incredibly grateful for your hard work, long hours, and commitment to keeping our community safe.
