I’ve been experimenting with how to display extremely high-res comic book pages shrunk to fit tiny iOS device screens. It’s been a big issue in iComics lately. 🤔
I just tried rolling my own trilinear filter inside of UIKit and by gum, I think we’re onto something here! 😁
Happy Free Comic Book Day folks! You know the drill. iComics is free for the next 24 hours!

Here’s a blog post on it. :D

@MIN_JIA_ Hi there! Sorry for the delay! Thank you so much! I’m glad you’re enjoying the app, and I’m glad translating it to Chinese was worth it! I’ll try my best! :)
Woohoo! After poking buttons in Photoshop for a week, I think I've finally come up with the sort of design style I want for iComics 2. The idea is to evolve it slowly and add more features over time. :D
Now to actually build it. XD

@_libei Hey Bei! Thanks for for the follow! Not in iComics 1, sorry. Pages map 1-to-1 in the scroll view since the width is calculated up front.
I’m going to redo the lot in iComics 2 to allow 2 page scrolling by building the page list dynamically.
Thanks! :)
@iamkowboy Hey Kowboy! I’ve had that request a lot! I’m saving that one for iComics 2 because it’s a rather complex thing to do, and it’ll be easier to do there.
Thanks a lot! :)
If anyone else has been experiencing crashes with iComics on iOS 14, I’ve uploaded a new beta to TestFlight.
Feel free to give it a shot and let me know! https://t.co/vmHlbVpd0Z
In the meantime, I’m looking at iOS widgets. :D
Hello world! I’ve added a basic iOS 14 widget to iComics to easily resume where you last left off. 😁
It’s still in the middle of being localised, but feel free to give it a shot in the latest beta!

@EdwardAbarilla Hey Edward! Fantastic! Glad you like it! 😄 Wait, where did you send the feedbacks?
I’ll try my best! This year kind of derailed all the plans I had for building the app so far, but I’m nearly back on track now. 😅
@dgavrilov Oh dear. Thanks for letting me know! I’ll have to look into that. In the meantime, you can access the underlying folder structure via the Files app if you need to get comic files out of there. :)
Probably should have mentioned this earlier. If anyone is interested in how much effort it takes to get the iComics comic importer to detect when new files have been dragged in, here's a presentation about it that happened earlier this year. :D

@JonyIveParody Holy smokes! Not Jony Ive! Huge fan here! It's an honour! Thanks so much! :D
Ah, I don't have anything like that, but I'm exploring how to do it. I think Amazon's comics have the panel coords baked in, but I'm exploring if it's possible to dynamically detect them in code.
If you're not sure what sort of comics you could be reading, literally the entire comic book series of The Walking Dead is available on Humble Bundle right now. :D
