My thoughts on Series Finale of The Boys "Blood and Bone"
Spoiler Warning for the Final Episode
From the first episode of this season, Starlight releasing the Flight 37 video made me think that the show climax would be Homelander snapping and doing what he promised Starlight he would do back in S3, however they brushed it off immediately as an AI-generated video and completely forgot about it.
What made zero sense to me was the whole V1 plot, Sage claimed that V1 was 10X more potent than ordinary V and when Homelander injected himself in Episode 6 after Solider Boy gave it to him, I thought to myself for sure that he's now he's even stronger than we've ever seen him before, hell that laser blast alone was insanely powerful and it looked like he gained a huge power boost.
Yet in the final episode, Butcher can easily 1v1 him, the power scaling here made zero sense considering that Bombsight knocked Butcher out by slamming him onto a wall.
Homelander wasn't even exhausted before this final fight, yet when Ryan joined the fight, he didn't even manage to escape even though Homelander can travel at extremely high speeds (when he saved Butcher from that explosion in S1), mind you the V1 is supposed to be 10X more potent than the ordinary V and we never get to see that.
The Herogasm fight in Season 3 was more powerful and had me sitting in front of my chair watching it because it was that good, Homelander insane power made sense back then yet for some reason the writers had to nerf Homelander in this final fight in order to wrap it things up quickly before moving onto the next plot twist, I still struggle to understand why they had to save this bit for the last episode.
Butcher changing his mind about killing every supe on earth and the trigger point being Ryan refusing to start a new life with him with Terror dying right after was honestly a weak excuse to make him turn on his friends and kill them with the virus, I know he lost everything but we all know how much Butcher cares about Hughie as he is the spitting image of Lenny for him. Nonetheless, his death was very emotional and I can't deny that his death and Butcher finally getting his revenge on Homelander were the best scenes in this season.
I'm not even going to talk about Solider Boy arc because we don't even get to see him in the final episode, part of me expected him to join the final fight, however it looked like the writers didn't know what to do with him so they had Homelander put him to sleep in the penultimate episode.
Overall I think the posters are what did the most damage to this final season by setting huge expectations; a destroyed Vought tower and Homelander watching the world getting scorched from space didn't happen at all.
There was also one interview where Antony Starr said that the worst thing Homelander has done in The Boys is in S5 and nothing of that magnitude happened, it could possibly be a deleted scene.
That being said, The Boys will remain one of my favorite TV shows that I've ever watched with Karl Urban and Antony Starr being the GOATs of this show for portraying Butcher and Homelander. They nailed every single scene they played.
Goodbye The Boys
