If you see a better opportunity, leave and go build yourself. Don’t stay just because your boss likes you or the company has been good to you. If the tables were turned and they had to let you go, they’d do it.
Resume template for project managers
Why I like this resume
1) Concise Format:
Clean, easy-to-read layout. Recruiters and hiring managers appreciate resumes that get straight to the point.
2) Accomplishments with Metrics:
Good use of the XYZ formula in their bullet points—achieved X by doing Y, resulting in Z (e.g., "Increased project efficiency by 20%, reducing costs by 15%").
3) Strategic Keywords:
You can’t see it, but they ensured their resume was optimized for Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) using specific terms in the job description.
4) Powerful Summary:
High level overview of their career and major accomplishments, including significant projects they led and results that came from them. No jargon or fluff which is a big plus.
5) The Right Skills:
Lists both technical and soft skills (leaning more on technical skills), ensuring a well-rounded profile that appeals to a variety of employers. They also used job descriptions to optimize this section.
One thing I keep telling younger friends and colleagues is to develop depth in something.
Chase global opportunities. Apply for the fellowships. Go to the conferences. Build your network. Travel if you get the opportunity. Put yourself in rooms where you can meet people and see what is possible.
All of these things can change your life.
But somewhere along the way, make sure you are actually becoming very good at something.
Know something deeply. Develop a skill people can trust you with. Become the person who understands a subject beyond what can be picked up from a few articles or a weekend workshop.
Because opportunities can give you access, but access eventually exposes your level of competence.
You can get into the room through a fellowship. You can meet important people at a conference. You can build an impressive LinkedIn profile. You can collect certificates from some of the best institutions in the world.
Eventually, somebody will ask you to do the work.
Write the paper.
Analyse the data.
Lead the project.
Edit the story.
Build the product.
Explain the problem.
Manage the team.
Advise the organisation.
And at that point, there is nowhere to hide.
This is why I worry sometimes when I see young people becoming very good at chasing opportunities without spending enough time developing the competence those opportunities are supposed to accelerate.
Your twenties and thirties are a great time to explore. Try different things. Move across fields. Discover what interests you. I certainly do not believe everyone needs to spend their entire career doing one thing.
But exploration should still leave you with accumulated knowledge and ability.
If you have worked in climate for five years, you should understand climate issues much better than someone who arrived yesterday.
If you have covered elections for years, you should know the history, institutions, data, actors and debates around elections.
If you work in AI, go beyond knowing the latest tools. Understand how the technology works, the policy debates, the business models, the limitations and the important questions in the field.
If you are a journalist, learn to report and write exceptionally well.
Whatever it is, go deep enough that people can depend on what you know and what you can do.
And depth takes time.
It comes from reading. Practice. Repetition. Failure. Working with people better than you. Being corrected. Doing difficult assignments. Staying with a problem long enough to understand the things that are invisible from the surface.
Global opportunities are valuable. Networks matter. Visibility can help. I have benefited enormously from all three.
But none of them makes competence obsolete.
If anything, the more access you get, the more important competence becomes.
Because getting into the room is one thing.
Having something valuable to contribute when you get there is another.
Competence will never go out of fashion.

I used to enjoy my own company so much, but these days I feel this growing need for companionship. I want people to call, people to randomly see, people to make plans with. I need friends.

Firstly I want to thank @piggyvest . Since I started using your app, nobody’s touching story gets to me because all my money that is not currently in use is either invested there,in stocks and other places or locked up in my Piggyvest safe lock.
Thank you to my friends for reminding me always that giving men I don’t know money is not ok😂 especially because I work too hard for my money.
So he came to my Dm as Onomena. He said he’s a landlord and also works with a financial firm abroad but he’s based in Lagos(Egbeda). He said he likes me and wants to get to know me and I said I’m open to friendships but not a relationship and he said ok. In all sincerity,I knew his face was damn familiar but I couldn’t place where I had seen him before. Onomena kept reaching out and we continued talking.
One random day he said he wanted to go to @PHCNnigeria office to complain about his tenant’s meter not reflecting recharge and I supported him to go to and sort it.
He told me he wasn’t going to be able to talk to me because his phones aren’t so good and with the whole light situation,he will need to be going out to charge his phones.
In my head,Oga don’t you work for a foreign finance firm and aren’t you a landlord?. You can’t afford a power bank ke??? But I know better than to ask people about their finances.
The next day,he went to PHCN office @PHCNnigeria as he said and according to him ,he was arrested by them and asked to pay 1.2m naira. I felt empathy for him and said “God will sort it out” and continued with my busy shift. Somehow he sorted it out and was home because I checked in on him at the end of my shift. Onomena became veryyyy cold when he realized I didn’t press money the previous day. Few days after the PHCN incidence,he said he wasn’t feeling well and I advised he sees a doctor for evaluation. I even referred him to a hospital close to him because I have friends there but he was reluctant to go. He said he had bank issues and he had his own doctor that he visits often but his bank app was down. I told him I would love to help but I didn’t have network which was a lie . Mind you I had shown my older sister his picture and she confirmed to me he’s the twitter guy that scams women.
This guy always had one bank issue or the other,or a network issue or something. I decided to speak up finally and tell him I know him from his twitter scams and that’s how he denied himself o!😂😂😂.
After so much persuasion,he accepted and said he’s a changed man and he really likes me, I just blocked him.
Imagine if I was emotionally available, lmao I would have fallen prey.
Nurses aren’t the best people to scam mehn, I am looking for millions myself.
His handle is @Ellipsissed
A man who genuinely likes you will not leave you guessing. He will not be hot and cold. He will not disappear for days and return with excuses. He will show up, not perfectly, but consistently. He will not make you feel like you're a burden. He will not make you beg for clarity.
He initiates. You do not have to be the one always reaching out. He texts first. He calls first. He plans. He checks in. He makes you feel like you are on his mind, even when you are not together.
He remembers. He remembers the small things you told him. He remembers what makes you smile. He remembers what you are afraid of.
He does not make you feel like you are asking for too much. When you express a need, he listens. He does not dismiss you. He does not make you feel like you are being difficult. He does not disappear when you ask for more. He shows up.
He makes time. No matter how busy he is, he makes time for you. Not because he has to. But because he wants to. Because you are a priority, not an option.
His actions match his words. He does not just tell you he cares. He shows you. He does not just make promises. He keeps them. He does not just say he wants to be with you. He proves it.
This is an example of natural water filtration. Most of the drinkable water our ancestors consumed in our villages passed through this type of filtration.
Men can’t be friends with women without catching feelings, but apparently they can be in a whole relationship and still not catch feelings. Make it make sense
