RIVERS LIBERATION MOVEMENT.

CALL FOR TRANSPARENCY AND INSTITUTIONAL PROBE INTO THE EIGHT-YEAR TENURE OF FORMER RIVERS STATE GOVERNOR, CHIEF NYESOM WIKE

We hereby call on the Rivers State Government, under the leadership of His Excellency the Executive Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara GSSRS, alongside relevant federal anti-corruption, financial, and regulatory agencies, to immediately institute a comprehensive, independent, and transparent probe into the eight-year tenure (2015–2023) of the former Governor of Rivers State and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, CON.

This call is not borne out of sentiment, politics, or vendetta. It is rooted in the constitutional right of the people of Rivers State to accountability, transparency, and proper stewardship of public resources.

KEY AREAS REQUIRING URGENT PUBLIC DISCLOSURE AND INVESTIGATION

1. Total Revenue Accrued to Rivers State (2015–2023)

The people of Rivers State deserve a full, audited disclosure of all revenues received within the eight-year period, including but not limited to:
- Federal allocations
- Internally Generated Revenue (IGR)
- Loans, bonds, and special intervention funds
- Derivation funds and other statutory inflows

2. Cost and Valuation of Projects Executed

The government must publish:
- A comprehensive list of all projects executed during the eight years
- Approved project costs, actual disbursements, and current valuations
- Independent value-for-money audit reports, particularly for major infrastructure projects

3. Rivers State Ring Road Project

Full disclosure is required on:
- The total contract sum of the Ring Road project
- The identity of the actual contractor(s), specifically whether Julius Berger Nigeria Plc or Aleeds Construction executed the project
- The procurement process adopted and the payment structure

4. Flyover Projects Across the State

Given the scale and cost of the flyover projects, an independent valuation is required to determine:
- Whether the costs align with prevailing market benchmarks
- Whether the scope and quality of execution justify the amounts reportedly expended

5. Land Allocations (2015–2023)

We demand the publication of:
- All land allocations made by the Rivers State Government within the eight-year period
- Names of beneficiaries, sizes, locations, and purposes of allocated lands
- Evidence of compliance with statutory land administration and allocation procedures

6. Ownership of Strategic Assets and Properties

Clarification is required on the ownership structure, acquisition process, and funding arrangements of the following assets:
- Dappa Biriye House (Old NDDC Building)
- Reclaimed Eastern Bypass Land
- Hypercity Development
- Signature Hotel
- Stock Exchange Building at the CFC

The public must know whether these assets are wholly owned by the Rivers State Government, private individuals, or operated under public-private partnership arrangements, and under what terms.

7. Alleged $300 Million NNPC Compensation (OML 11)

There are persistent public claims regarding an alleged $300 million compensation reportedly paid by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) to the Rivers State Government in respect of OML 11. We call for:
- Official confirmation of whether such funds were received
- Clear records of inflow, utilisation, and final beneficiaries
- Audit reports detailing how the funds were applied in the public interest

CALL TO ACTION

We respectfully but firmly urge:
- The Rivers State Government to immediately release the above records in the spirit of transparency and democratic accountability.
- The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), Code of Conduct Bureau, and the Office of the Auditor-General to take proactive steps to investigate these matters.

Mob Justice in Edo: 16 Innocent Northern Travelers Killed Over False Accusations 💔

In a harrowing display of mob injustice, 16 innocent travelers from Northern Nigeria lost their lives in the Udune Efandion community of Uromi, Edo State, after being falsely accused of kidnapping. This unfathomable tragedy unfolded on Thursday, as an irate mob took the law into their own hands, fueled by false claims and sheer ignorance.

Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the victims, primarily Hausa hunters, were en route from Port Harcourt to Kano for the Sallah festivities when they were intercepted around 1:30 p.m. by members of the Edo State Security Corps and local vigilantes.

The sight of their hunting guns. Dane guns commonly used in the North was misinterpreted as a threat. Instead of contacting the police, or other security agencies, local vigilantes raised a false alarm, which ignited a wave of chaos and violence.

The reaction was swift and brutal. Local youths, incited by the unfounded accusations, viciously attacked the travelers, resulting in the tragic loss of 16 lives on the spot. In a grotesque act of barbarism, the mob set the truck ablaze, leaving some bodies trapped inside the vehicle. While some people were taken out on wheelbarrow and thrown inside fire. This gruesome scene only point to the sickening reality of mob justice that has taken root in certain communities.

Responsive action from security operatives came too late for the victims. By the time they arrived on the scene following a distress call, the damage had been done. Four survivors were rescued and rushed to His Grace Hospital in Uromi for urgent medical treatment. Meanwhile, authorities have confirmed the arrest of five suspects, but is this enough? A mere handful of arrests cannot bring back those lost, nor can it alleviate the trauma inflicted on the surviving families.

The Hausa community in Uromi held an emergency peace meeting to address the situation and aims to prevent any further reprisals, yet questions linger. Will justice truly be served?

The police, responsible for maintaining law and order, have vowed that "the law must take its course" and that those responsible for these heinous acts will be brought to justice. But how can trust be restored when justice is often delayed or never served?

Public outrage at this incident is palpable, with cries for accountability ringing out across the nation. Many have called for urgent legal action against those involved, as well as heightened public awareness regarding the dangers of mob violence. The specter of extrajudicial killings looms large, threatening national unity and stoking the flames of ethnic tension.

Observers and community leaders implore the authorities to enhance law enforcement and improve intelligence sharing among security agencies to prevent such a horrific tragedy from happening again. When will this cycle of violence end? It is high time that justice is prioritized, and those who resort to mob action are held accountable for their barbarity.

In this dark chapter of Nigerian history, the need for a collective commitment to justice and peace has never been more urgent. The lives lost demand justice, and the survivors deserve the assurance that they can live without fear of becoming victims of false accusations and mob brutality.

As part of activities to usher in 2025, I attended the New Year Eve service at St. Paul's Cathedral, Opobo Town.

It was an opportunity to appreciate God for all that He has done and continues to do for me as an individual and for our dear State.

The event was also to reassure Rivers people that God is with us and that we are committed to serving the State as I wish them a more productive year ahead in 2025.
