The hypocrisy of medics is actually funny
Weโll counsel patients about the dangers of eating late, explain circadian rhythm, metabolic health, and Night Eating Syndrome with our full chest
Then, at 11:47pm, youโll find us in the call room eating noodles like weโre conducting a clinical trial.
Medics, we need to talk
As an intern at NNRH Calabar, my superior constantly reminded me not to drag pathology, diagnosis or physiology with Doctors during Ward rounds.
Are pharmacist trained to spot minor/major diagnoses? Yes, but is it a pharmacist major strength? No
Stay within your professional scope and be excellent at it. In his words โBe so sound in your specialty (pharmaceutical care) that no doctor will ignore your contribution during Ward roundโ
Most times over boarding usually cause distraction from oneโs specialty
Trying to make a Pharmacist feel depressed keh?
Someone that survived
- Dispensing practicals
- Pharmacology
- Plant microscopy and identification
- Clinicals, Pharmacotherapy
& Nuclear chemistry
The nonsense healthcare system we have in Naija has made us begin to glorify little things like IV Cannulation.
In an average private hospital you're almost worshiped if you can site a line.... something as basic as that.
I used to take pride in it until I started thinking deeply about it..... after realizing that what we're actually celebrating is the bare minimum.
The real question we should be asking is: why are so many of our colleagues unable to do it? Is it poor training? Lack of practice? Hospitals that don't invest in simulation or mentorship?
We've normalized incompetence so deeply that competence looks like excellence.
I'm not interested in being the best nurse in a broken system. I want to be a good nurse by global standards where cannulation is the floor, not the ceiling.
We need to stop celebrating survival and start demanding growth. ๐ฉบ
If you were the Minister of Health or Chairman/President of your professional council today, what ONE reform would you implement immediately to improve HCP welfare in Nigeria?
Mine: Paid annual leave regardless of practice setting
Healthcare professionals, whatโs yours?
Weโre backkk!
Beyond the counter space is this sunday
Tell a pharm to tell a pharm!
This Sunday weโre talking about common ear infections we encounter in practice.
See youuu! ๐
Iโve heard many people say, โA man should never lay hands on a woman,โ while completely excusing a woman who hit a man first.
The message should be simple: No one should lay hands on anybody.
Violence is wrong, regardless of who starts it or who is on the receiving end.
A. Propranolol
Propranolol blocks beta-adrenergic receptors, and that blocks the warning signs of low blood sugar. While symptoms like tremor, rapid heartbeat, palpitations, anxiety are masked; Sweating, since thatโs triggered by a different (cholinergic) pathway, not beta receptors are usually preserved.
So not all hypoglycemic symptoms are masked by Propranolol
@Rx_Kashim I have worked with good doctors in the hospital. Pharmaceutical care go just sweet you. Their eyes are sharper and deeper than us when it comes to diagnosis. You can never match their in-depth pathology and physiology knowledge
