Ask you parents if anyone in your family has had it before.

- If you are sexually active, Get a Pap smear and HPV Vaccine (If you have not gotten)

- If you are a Gym enthusiast, Try and get a Blood Pressure check and ECG.( people with silent heart diseases have been known to collapse)

- If you have not gotten your Hepatitis B vaccine. It is not too late. Get screened today and Get it.

- If you are taking a bold step to marry . Repeat your Genotype at a sophisticated lab. Yes repeat it.

A QUICK MEDICAL EXPLANATION:
Pregnancy can cause a stroke!

This lady in the video just gave birth and reportedly had a stroke. As you can see, the left side of her body is stiffened and paralysed.

Unfortunately, pregnancy sometimes increases the risk of developing very high blood pressure and IF this is not detected or controlled very quickly, the uncontrolled high blood pressure can cause serious devastating complications for the pregnant woman.

Uncontrolled high blood pressure can burst the blood vessels in the brain leading to lack of blood supply to that part of the brain. This will lead to paralysis of the part of the body controlled by that side of the brain, this is what is called a stroke.

Uncontrolled high blood pressure can lead to blockage of the blood vessels around the heart leading to lack of blood supply to the heart muscles causing the heart to stop working, this is what is called a heart attack.

The uncontrolled high blood pressure in the blood vessels of the brain can sometimes also lead to collapse and convulsions, this is called eclampsia, this can eventually lead to sudden death if there is no urgent medical intervention.

The point to all of these is to simply tell you that the simplest way to prevent this happening to any pregnant woman you know around you is to ensure they register for regular antenatal checkup.

For the first 7months of pregnancy, you should have an antenatal check once every month. From 7th to 9th month, you should have an antenatal check every two weeks. After the 9th month, you should go for a check every week till the baby is born.

At every antenatal check:
Your your blood pressure, your urine and sometimes your blood glucose should be checked.

However as a pregnant woman, your blood pressure should be checked at least once every month.

This is to prevent undetected high blood pressure which can lead to a stroke, a heart attack or sudden death.

Again, to be very clear:
The easiest and most effective way to prevent developing stroke during pregnancy is to have regular blood pressure and blood sugar checks.

I watched my wife slowly increase in size as the baby inside her grew. I saw her writhe in pain during the early stages, as her body tried to adjust to the new reality.
I watched her go from eating moderately to having a large appetite because she had to feed the little thing growing inside her.
