• It appears from the chats that there were numerous occasions on which Major General Khan assisted Mr Sayed to target competitors of Carnilinx (Mr Sayed’s company) in the illegal tobacco industry.

• On 11 June 2021, Mr Sayed messaged Major General Khan about a tobacco company in East London, Protobac, giving details of their factory, what cigarette brands they manufactured and saying “I need to fuck them out off sight”.

• Major General Khan responded “Ok bro”.

• A few weeks later on 22 July 2021, Mr Sayed forwarded to Major General Khan a report of a SAPS raid on Protobac and followed with a message saying “This is the same fucker in EL, Protobac that’s busy with shit there, Govender’s guys must seize it”.

• On 23 June 2021, Mr Sayed forwarded to Major General Khan an internal SAPS report on the raid on Protobac followed by a copy of the SAPS register of the amounts of cigarettes seized from Protobac. He then complained that the register appeared to undercount the amount.

• On 11 June 2021, Mr Sayed also forwarded a series of messages to General Khan about the interception of trucks of competitors. In this case, it appears that the trucks were transporting Gold Leaf brands because the messages referred to “15 trucks of GL”.

• On 7 August 2021, Mr Sayed forwarded to Major General Khan a series of messages and photographs of a SAPS raid on competitors.

• In response to the second set of messages which related to Gold Leaf tobacco, General Khan expressed approval that they were “getting knocked from all sides”. On 20 October 2022, Major General Khan forwarded to Mr Sayed an internal SAPS report on the arrest of several people in relation to the illegal cigarette trade in Cape Town. He followed up his message with a series of photographs of the suspects, their vehicles and the confiscated cigarettes.

• On 25 October 2022, Major General Khan appears to have assisted Mr Sayed by arranging with SAPS North West Crime Intelligence to provide Mr Sayed's request for "a team to help me regarding Botswana border”.

According to the bundle, the chats between Sayed and General Khan suggest that Wiandre Pretorius was employed by Sayed in an arrangement brokered by Khan and that Pretorius was used by Sayed and his connections in the SAPS to target rivals in the illicit tobacco industry.
