International Rangelands and Fodder Conference (IRFC 2026)- Second Circular

The International Rangelands and Fodder Conference (IRFC 2026) is scheduled to be organised during 23-25 September, 2026 with the theme "Pastures, People and Livestock: Sustaining Livelihoods and Ecosystem"

Venue: ICAR–Indian Grassland and Fodder Research Institute (IGFRI), Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, India

Organized by the Range Management Society of India (RMSI) in collaboration with ICAR, ICAR-IGFRI, ICAR-CAFRI, RLBCAU, and TAAS.

This international conference is being held as part of the 'International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists (IYRP 2026).

The conference will feature technical sessions on:
-Rangeland and grassland management
-Integrated Farming Systems (IFS)
-Climate-smart agriculture and ecosystem restoration
-Forage crop improvement and seed research
-Livestock production and value chains
-AI, drones, and digital technologies in agriculture
-Agroforestry, policy, governance, and pastoral livelihoods

'Khet Bachao Abhiyan'
(01-30 June, 2026)

Today's campaigning includes the visit of institute team (Dr. R. V. Kumar & Dr. Ratnakar Patel) to the Lidhora and Behta Palar villages of Jhansi; 65 farmers attended the kisan goshti.

Team RRS, Palampur (Dr SS Bhat & Dr Surinder Paul) visited Bharmath and sensitized 18 farmers.

Team RRS, Srinagar (Dr Suheel Ahmad, Dr Nazim HM, Dr Atufa Regu, Dr. Asif Md. Iqbal) organised a farmer's goshti program in collaboration with Sheep Husbandry Dept., where 42 farmers from Baramulla district gathered and benefited.

Team RRS, Awikanagar led by Dr HS Meena organised the farmers awareness program in village Kirawal, Tonk, Rajasthan; program attended by 55 farmers.

All the programs organised under the 'Khet Bachao Abhiyan' have benefitted the farmers by sensitizing them about the balanced use of Fertilizers, integrated nutrient management involving organic inputs, to maintain the soil health sustainabily. Besides the farmers were informed about the importance and practices of fodder production and improved livestock management.

ICAR-IGFRI RRS Srinagar, in collaboration with ACRA, Samba, organized a one-day SCSP training on scientific cultivation of fodder crops under rainfed conditions. Eighty farmers, including women, participated in interactive sessions on fodder production and livestock health. Drudgery-reducing tools, fodder seed, and veterinary medicines were distributed to support sustainable livestock-based livelihoods.

The Department of Botany, University of Kashmir and ICAR-IGFRI Regional Research Station, Srinagar organized a two-day workshop on “Managing Invasions for Grassland Restoration and Resilience”. The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Nilofer Khan, Vice-Chancellor, University of Kashmir.
Eminent experts, including Prof. Mahesh Shankaran (NCBS, Bengaluru) and Dr. G. Balachander (Krishi Bounty Biotech, Bengaluru), Dr. Zaffar A Reshi, Dr. Manzoor Ahmad Shah, Dr. Anzar A Khuroo, Dr. S.N. Zaffar along with IGFRI scientists including Dr. Suheel Ahmad, Dr. Nazim Hamid Mir, and Dr. Atufa Regu, participated in the deliberations. The discussions focused on the ecological impacts of invasive species and science-based strategies for grassland restoration, productivity enhancement, and climate resilience through integrated management and stakeholder participation.

A group of progressive sheep breeders from Baramulla district, facilitated by the Sheep Husbandry Department Baramulla, visited the ICAR- IGFRI: Regional Research Station, Srinagar. The visitors were apprised of the latest fodder production technologies, with special focus on pomace-based silage and the Oat–Berseem–Maize–Cowpea cropping system for year-round fodder security.
