"Formal" education isn't a requirement for a "good" IGG, says Andrew Hochreiter, MEd, MIS. He says @IGGABorg is looking at a group of core competencies for an exam that would assess the skills needed to meet the proposed standards, even without a degree.
The @IGGABorg got started in May 2022 after the state of Maryland passed a law regarding privacy and the use of the genealogy databases. https://t.co/MxKU8F7uem
Our next steps over the coming months will be to publish the Core Competencies for AIGGs and launch the Accreditation Exam.

The standards, published April 30, specify what an Accredited Investigative Genetic Genealogist (AIGG) shall do to be considered competent and ethical.
After many months of writing and consultation with stakeholders, a draft of the Investigative Genetic Genealogy Professional Standards and Requirements is now published and open for public comment until 5/30.
