After the hype dies (again), Bungie should announce how much revenue this final update racked up. I'd like to know how much money is going to Marathon. 🤣
“Hey boss, look at all these people logging in to celebrate the fact that our game is sunsetting! It’s like 500% more than what we usually have!”
“Damn Johnson, you’re right! Let’s invest $300 Million into a sequel!”
This is what the Destiny community thinks is about to happen lol
Marathon will never have enough players, be accepted by everyone, be good enough, be around forever, not make mistakes, or whatever else you can think of. It's imperfect, just like everything else in this life. Show grace, seek God, stop making survival harder than it already is.
People acting like me playing Marathon makes me a traitor to Destiny.
WHERE WERE YOU WHEN I WAS BATTLING THROUGH TRIALS OF CHEAT SIRIS DOING EVERYTHING I COULD TO HOLD THE DESTINY WORLD TOGETHER AND VOUCH FOR ITS PLAYERS WHILE EVERYONE ELSE WENT AND PLAYED/STREAMED OTHER GAMES?!?!?
I NEVER WENT ANYWHERE! I WAS FUCKIN HOLDING MY GROUND AND FIGHTING FOR US! IM THE #1 FLAWLESS PLAYER IN THE WORLD. I CARRIED 4000 PEOPLE TO THE LIGHTHOUSE WHILE OTHERS RAN FROM THE DESTINY WORLD. MOTHAFUCKAS, I BLEED DESTINY. DONT YOU DARE MAKE ME OUT TO BE A TRAITOR.
@frogpitgaming Maybe all the people "standing up to Sony" should be playing Destiny, pumping the numbers up, spending their money on Eververse shit instead of complaining about Marathon.
Sony doesn’t operate on Twitter petitions, fake corporate roleplay letters, or “we know how to fight” energy. They look at:
- Sustained revenue trends
- Player retention curves
- Development costs vs. return
- Brand risk
If the “Destiny community” keeps proving itself toxic, entitled, and willing to actively sabotage new projects out of spite, Sony’s rational move is to minimize exposure, not double down. Burning Bungie to the ground and letting the IP rot (or licensing it to whoever wants it for mobile slop) is absolutely on the table before they let a vocal minority dictate billion-dollar decisions.
The Destiny community is not Call of Duty or GTA. You are not even close to the cultural force you imagine yourselves to be. You had a strong run, but you are not some irreplaceable pillar of Sony’s portfolio. Your leverage is imaginary; as it always was. The only real leverage in this industry is consistent wallet voting and retention, not performative outrage.
And guess what? The Destiny community DID vote with their wallets. Which is why Destiny 2 is no longer being updated.
D2 is not even getting shut down. It's just not getting any more content after the 9th. It is, allegedly, getting almost all of the fixes the community has wanted and then being left in a content complete state. That means this entire online tantrum is not because people can't access their favorite game anymore. It's because they feel entitled to more than 11 years of content updates and indefinite access to their content complete game.
Marathon did not kill Destiny 2 🙅♂️❌
A whole list of things ruined Destiny 2 over the years that lead to its downfall:
- PvP Neglect (no new maps for years, months without updates)
- Content Vault/Weapon Sunsetting
- Seasons/drip fed content
- Weapon Crafting
- Poor Onboarding Experience
- Pete Parsons/Management inflating Bungies value prior to Sony Acquisition
Although there were peaks with some of the content releases (Into The Light, Final Shape, Raids/Dungeons, Weapon/Buildcrafting) Edge of Fate was the nail in the coffin after they introduced Portal Ops essentially killing the heart and soul of the game.
That being said, Destiny 2 had a good run. I hope Destiny 3 can come out one day. I will be playing Marathon Season 2 and I am also checking out the final Destiny 2 update 💪 We are playing video games at the end of the day. All the noise going on is just grown adults acting like clowns 🤡
@J_Kitans@MacticsG1@strippelhofff Such a childish mentality to have. Bungie deserves to be here. They paved the way for shooters on console as we know it. A lot of this wouldn't exist if it wasn't for them.
@DRizZyMFDRiz@MacticsG1 Exactly! Like where were all of y'all when the player numbers started dipping? If all these loud mouth mfers stuck to the game they claim to love so much, Destiny wouldn't be going anywhere. The community did this to themselves and the easiest thing to blame is Marathon.
All y'all Destiny mfers are gonna play the update for a week and then move on. Stop pretending like you've been loyal to Destiny through all the bs its been through. And stop pinning Marathon as the sole reason Destiny's over.
