Want to discover what Canadians have to say about their fresh water?
(Spoiler alert: it's a lot...)
We teamed up with AquaAction to ask Canadians how they feel about where fresh water is headed and are announcing the results on October 13.
Be there! https://t.co/x0Ztr4dt6s

Can you feel the chemistry (& analytical service laboratory tour) between us?
After we head out on to the lakes, the water samples we collect are brought back to our on-site chemistry lab.
Discover the analyses they undergo, as well as the characters they meet along the way...

Remember when Scott Higgins broke down all things algal blooms to his grade four student son, Simon?
This time, follow along with Yohann Ibe—a high school student—as he discovers what algal blooms mean for him and his community.
Then SHARE with the high schoolers in your life.
DYK you can actually come check out our research station in person?
Or join a field course?
Or invite us into your classroom or community to discover more about the work we do?

Less plastic waste ⬇️ More renewables ⬆️ 150 cups saved 🥤
This is how our partnership with Sam's Place in Winnipeg and Muuse to increase reusable foodware is taking flight...
...but they can be difficult to grasp depending on how much you understand about ecology and science.
That is why I set myself the task of explaining them to a grade four student—my son, in fact.
How do you think I did? (2/2)
Hi there, and happy #WorldLakeDay...
My name is Scott Higgins and I am a freshwater scientist here at IISD-ELA—the world's freshwater laboratory.

Hydrology. Limnology. Meteorology.
Our cannily named hydrolim team monitors the ongoing health and state of our lakes throughout the year so that we can keep a close eye on how our lakes are changing.
And why.
And what we need to do about it.
"Whenever I tell people my work involves monitoring lakes over decades, the response is often a polite yet firm nod, implicitly signalling that routine data collection must be a bit, well, boring."

The IISD-Experimental Lakes Area is a facility without comparison in Northwestern Ontario, and the world over.
With a clear vision to enhance capacity for scientific research, education and the ability to host scientists from around the world, we announced $2M in funding from the NOHFC towards the construction of the Centre for Climate and Lake Learning.
Today is a testament to the historic friendships and partnerships between our government and IISD-ELA, built on our shared belief in the world-class facility we have to learn and live science, right here in Northwestern Ontario.
