Delighted to be at King's College London next week on the kind invitation of the Right Rev'd Prof. Peter Selby. I'll be talking about "Jesus & the Desire to Die" -- chapter 4 (& the rest of) my @HurstPublishers & @OUPPhilosophy book, @IJudgeNoOne. Do join if you're in town --
Fascinating to see Plutarch cite “the execution of Socrates & Pythagoras” in a single breath (De Stoicorum Repugnantiis 32-36). We don’t talk enough about the killing of Pythagoras. — I do some of this in @IJudgeNoOne, since Mara bar Sarapion links Jesus, Socrates & Pythagoras.
New Oxford volume I'd very much like to see - esp. the chapter on Elise Reimarus, daughter of Hermann Samuel Reimarus (my bête noire in @IJudgeNoOne). More here - https://t.co/NKCixpreeQ
@OUPPhilosophy
Such a pleasure to join @PLeithart & @jamesrwoodtheo1 this month to discuss The Innocence of Pontius Pilate & @IJudgeNoOne. Civitas Podcast is a notable new venture in political theology: their other guests include Samuel Moyn & Eric Gregory. Listen here: https://t.co/NMODejYrAZ
Molto obbligato, Jacob! Delighted to see this, & keen to hear your thoughts & impressions (& any criticisms) on later chapters --
@Shermanicus
Headed to @helsinkiuni for a History of Philosophy Seminar on @IJudgeNoOne tomorrow, titled "What Is This Sophia? Jesus, the Gospels & the History of Philosophy."
We'll be at University of Helsinki, Fabianinkatu 33, Faculty Hall at 14.15. Do join if you're in the north-country.
Delighted to be joining the Lachlan Macquarie Institute near Canberra, today & tomorrow, to discuss @IJudgeNoOne & books 8 & 19 of Augustine of Hippo's City of God against the Pagans (especially struck by the 'animated statues' of Egyptian lore, in light of AI).
@InstituteDanube
A few from last week's Aletheia lecture on @IJudgeNoOne, cohosted by The Ramsay Centre & ACU in Sydney. Such a pleasure to meet scholars of Epictetus & Apuleius, Bacon & Traherne - & to hear from highly engaged students.
Sade raves about Spinoza at the start of his 1,000-page dream of crime, Juliette. But is Sade really a 'Spinozist'? & if not, does the difference between their philosophies have something - or everything - to do with Jesus? Out now in @EngelsbergIdeas - https://t.co/AedLVY0yPo
Very pleased that the Budapest cultural magazine Országút has published a Hungarian translation of my new @EngelsbergIdeas essay on Spinoza's Jesus. Read "Spinoza Jézusa" here - https://t.co/ZgEoRHG2cL
Very pleased to be flying back into autumn on 1 April, to give talks at several Australian universities & institutes. (My first time in the country.) Do join if you can --
