Volodymyr Zelensky once chose a life devoted to joy. As a comedian, his calling was simple but powerful: to make people laugh, to soften anger, to give relief to a nation tired of hardship.

He was not a careless joker, but a serious comedian—one whose words carried warmth, timing, and truth.

Wherever he went, crowds gathered. Children followed him in groups, calling his name with excitement. He was already a national hero long before he ever dreamed of the presidency.

Even before entering politics, Zelensky had drawn the attention—and the hostility—of Vladimir Putin.

In 2015, he openly supported Ukrainian soldiers defending their homeland, donating one million hryvnias to the troops. For that act alone, he was banned from entering Russia. His loyalty was clear: Ukraine first, always.

When Zelensky announced he would run against President Petro Poroshenko, many people laughed—including me.

I was upset, even disappointed. Why would a man who brought so much happiness leave comedy for the dirty, ruthless world of politics?

No one believed he stood a chance against an incumbent president. His candidacy seemed like a joke in itself.

But history had other plans. Against all expectations, Zelensky won the election with an overwhelming 75% of the vote.

While Putin clung to power through manipulation and fear, Ukraine chose hope. Ukraine chose a man who had never ruled, but who had always listened. In hindsight, many now believe his rise was not accidental, but providential.

That victory did not bring peace. It brought anger—especially from Moscow. To Putin, it was unthinkable that someone he viewed as insignificant could stand as the head of Ukraine.

What followed was not just political tension, but open aggression. Zelensky, who had once written jokes and performed sketches, suddenly became the face of resistance for an entire nation.

His joy at becoming president barely had time to settle. The celebration was cut short. The weight of leadership arrived faster than anyone could imagine.

Today, Zelensky carries the heavy burden of defending his country on his shoulders. His smile has been replaced by resolve. His nights are sleepless. His days are filled with endless travel—by road, train, and plane—moving from one urgent meeting to another, from one crisis to the next.

He speaks not as a performer anymore, but as a leader whose every word can cost lives or save them.
Yet, despite exhaustion, fear, and loss, he stands.

Zelensky’s story is no longer about laughter alone. It is about sacrifice, courage, and an unchosen destiny.

A man who once made a nation laugh now asks the world to stand with it. And in doing so, he has become more than a president—he has become a symbol.

May God continue to protect him. May he be granted strength when his body is weak, wisdom when decisions are heavy, and courage when the road seems endless.

May history remember him not just as a wartime leader, but as a man who never abandoned his people when they needed him most. Amen.

I cannot think of a leader in history who has shouldered the pain and suffering of a nation with such dignity, and unrelenting ambition to see his country emerge from darkness into the light of a better tomorrow.

He has been attacked not only by an indicted war criminal, but by the president of the most powerful country on earth, who is taking 30 pieces of silver from the Kremlin to betray an ally who’s soldiers died on the battlefield of Iraq alongside his own troops.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy is a president who will stand in the pantheon of great leaders. A man for who the lines etched onto his face reflect the pain he holds in his heart for every one of the tens of thousands of innocent Ukrainians who have lost their lives in his country.
