Our leader, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi once said Atiku Abubakar was not electable. Today, he is campaigning for Atiku to become President.

So, what changed?

In this week’s edition of “Nigerians do not want good governance; they just want their will to be done,” let’s talk about Amaechi.

Amaechi was one of the pillars that helped birth the APC. He was one of those who sold Nigerians the “Change” agenda, and it worked. Nigerians bought into it. He also became a minister in the first APC government.

But when he fell out with the leadership of the party, he started preaching against the APC.

I often wondered: Did the APC suddenly become bad because he fell out of favour? Or did he know they were always bad, but kept quiet because he was among?

Then he joined the ADC and wanted to become President.

In an interview with Trust TV in May 2026, while he and Atiku Abubakar were competing for the ADC presidential ticket, Amaechi questioned Atiku’s ability to win a general election.

I quote him:

“It’s about electability and Atiku has been proven severally he is not electable.”

He went further:

“Every time he has passed primary, he has not won the election.”

These were Amaechi’s words.

At that time, he wanted to be President himself.

Today, he is campaigning for an Atiku presidency.

So I have a simple question:

Why campaign for a man you once said had been proven to be unelectable?

Is it because you now stand a chance of becoming Vice President?

Is this why Atiku has suddenly become electable?

Can Atiku suddenly win elections now?

And isn't this exactly what we have been saying about our politicians?

Is it really about the people, or is it about what they stand to gain?

And what about the people who have followed Amaechi from PDP to APC and now to ADC — people who once stood against Atiku and are now campaigning for him?

Do they not ask questions?

Or are they simply operating on the principle of:

“Follow your leader. Don't ask questions.”

Because this is the same point I have been making.

If Atiku was bad yesterday and has suddenly become good today because supporting him may bring political benefits, then were they ever really fighting for good governance?

Or were they simply fighting to have their own will done?

Politics should not make us lose our ability to ask questions.

It will be difficult to convince me that European clubs, especially those in
England are not in cahoots with Sky Sports to make #TransferDeadlineDay a success. Because i do not understand why clubs have to wait until two hours to
the deadline to close deals when they had the whole summer to do so.
The case of Manchester City, Chelsea and Enzo Fernandez comes to mind. Chelsea gave
a deadline line that expired over a week ago and City cnubbed them. How come City reopened talks on Deadline day.
Look at Ndiaye to City, Mudryk to Tottenham and the failed Camara deal to Chelsea. All that drama on Deadline Day seems to me like it was staged to create excitement,
drama and engagement for Skysports.
