What happens when one of the NBA’s most storied teams—long run like a tight-fisted mom-and-pop shop—is taken over by a free-spending ownership group with a track record of building one of sports’ most sophisticated operations?
“It’s a full rebuild and retool."

New story for @YahooSports: The Pelicans’ level of investment in Derik Queen has many executives around the league assuming Zion Williamson could be on the market this offseason.
“New Orleans is home for me. It’s where I want to be,” Zion told me. “But at the end of the day, if we're going to be realistic about it, the NBA is a business. I could be traded in the offseason, or I could be traded before [next season’s] trade deadline.
“Not that I want that to happen,” he added. “But that’s just the realism of it.”

So my book comes out today. Maybe you've seen some viral headlines. Which is great, but the book is also much deeper and more nuanced than all that. I spent three years on it, interviewed nearly 300 people. If you care about the Lakers, LeBron, the NBA or are just interested in the sports world, I really think you'll like it.

NEWS: Knicks center Mitchell Robinson is not fully recovered from his May foot surgery and will not be ready for the start of the 2024-25 season, according to a league source. The team is targeting a December/January return, but that depends on his rehab process. The Knicks' priority is to be smart with Robinson's rehab—they do not want to rush him back before he's 100%. The Knicks also maintain that they are confident in the current depth and versatility of their roster.
Robinson underwent the procedure after suffering a stress injury to his left foot during the playoffs. He also had surgery on his left foot in December after suffering a stress fracture.
Regarding confusion over whether López said he was on "the worst team" or was "the worst teammate," I'm told López later explained his comments as a combination of both: the worst teammate on the worst team.
In the light of what’s happened in Israel and Gaza, a song about non-violence seems somewhat ridiculous, even laughable, but our prayers have always been for peace and for non-violence…
But our hearts and our anger, you know where that’s pointed. So sing with us… and those beautiful kids at that music festival…
