These are the rules I always give people who ask me for financial advice:
1. No matter how small your income is, save 30% of it. If you earn 100k, plan your life with 70k and treat that as your real salary.
2. Never try to help all your family members. Help only those who truly need it else, you will go broke before you realize it.
3. Know the clear difference between needs and wants. You do not need a one-million-naira house rent. You only need a decent place to sleep. Leave those expensive areas and stop trying to impress people.
4. Pay your tithe, whichever way you choose. Set aside a fixed percentage of your income and use it to help the less privileged, whether through church or direct charity. Do it consistently. You will be glad you did.
5. Buy a car before you build a house.
6. Never prove to anyone that you are doing well financially. You do not need to.
7. A nice man spends to please people. A kind man spends only when it is necessary. Avoid anything that will make people call you a "real man".
Above all, love God.
Five books that will change how you think about money forever.
1. The Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham.

3. Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki.
4. The Richest Man in Babylon by George Clason.

A pattern I've noticed in stuck people:
They're always busy. They never stop moving. They have 47 tabs open and a notebook-sized to-do list. But if you ask them what they accomplished this week that actually matters, their mind goes blank.
Busyness isn't a badge of honor.
