When a sports icon like Bilquis Mir, who broke barriers for women in water sports, is forced to fight in the Supreme Court just to represent India, it exposes the rot in the system here. As an internationally acclaimed sportsperson, she should have received full institutional backing. Instead, she was met with bureaucratic hurdles and obstruction. If a legend needs a judicial order to compete, what about the countless young athletes who don’t have the means, influence or resources to fight the bureaucracy? Sporting slogans ring hollow.

The Government cannot keep playing with the future of our youth. I stand with J&K’s 140 veterinary interns, the first defenders of public health, who are fighting for a fair stipend and basic safety equipment.

If the government has enough resources for film festivals, why invoke “financial implications” when it comes to supporting our youth? I urge HCM @adbullah_Omer @JavedDar_NC Sb to take up this issue immediately and bring stipends in line with national norms. If the government fails to act, we will raise the matter strongly in the Assembly.

One must appreciate the courage medical interns showed in staging peaceful protests all across J&K. After 2019 we witnessed how an iron hand clamped down anything even remotely resembling dissent. Their bravery in turn encouraged various neglected communities - Vet doctors, health employees & now Kashmiri Pandits to follow suit. Somewhere protests have been decriminalised.

Last year the people of Budgam chose change. So heartening to see a young man transform not only their lives but also stand in solidarity with the youth of Kashmir giving them hope. Muntazir sahab’s kind gesture of donating his salary to medical interns is much appreciable.

How does asking for a dignified livelihood amount to gross indiscipline? Our interns are thinking rational human beings not cattle to be herded.

Show compassion to the future doctors of J&K. Stop using sticks to rein them in. Give them what they deserve.

On whose behest has Principal SKIMS Bemina initiated action today against medical interns for demanding a legitimate stipend hike? India is a democracy we are entitled to peaceful protests. You cannot hold them to ransom on the basis of a silly affidavit.

Doublespeak by the government when the CM only a few hours ago claimed their issue will be resolved today only to issue these threatening letters through principals of various medical colleges. Raise their stipend @CM_JnK

At Kupwara today I met specially abled youngsters who rightly bemoaned the lack of job opportunities especially a school designated to cater to them.

During Mehbooba Mufti sahiba’s tenure land was earmarked for the same but unfortunately to this day it’s in limbo.

Excuses wont do. Raise their stipends already.
