Heading out to Virginia for the EDGE Leadership Conference! I will be taking leaders through the Italian Simulation and 7 Steps to show what true empathy for multilingual learners looks like in practice. See you soon, Spotsylvania! ✈️ #MakingWaves
August travel is on the board! Michigan, I have Windemere Park and Holly Park Academy coming up. Doing the travel prep now means when I walk in the door for the 7 Steps, I get to focus 100% on the teachers. Can't wait! ✈️

We loved reading the amazing tributes to educators this week. They are truly deserved.
To teachers of multilingual learners: thank you. You put in the hard work well beyond a single week in May to help students find their voice.

TRTW only works if students actually talk.
Don’t hand out a text and jump to silent reading. Start with discussion first. That conversation builds background knowledge, supports English learners, and makes the writing feel less intimidating.

Happy Star Wars Day!
Jedi mind tricks belong in the movies. In the classroom, sentence frames do the real work.
Give your multilingual learners a clear language structure and watch their confidence grow. May the 4th be with you!
You cannot fully understand the cognitive load of an English learner until you sit in a room where you do not speak the language of instruction. Empathy changes how we teach. Can't wait to share this experience with education leaders at @SpotsySchoos at EDGE 26 this June!
Nobody in the history of education has ever said "I really wish I had waited until August to think about this." 🤔
Capture what's working while you still remember it! Structures, routines, ideas, everything.
Your August self will thank you. 😌
Real learning happens through making connections, not just receiving information.
If students are struggling, point them to a resource first. Something that makes the input comprehensible! A visual, an anchor chart, or their own notes. Lower the stress to raise the output.
We cannot expect students to use academic language if we do not give them the chance to practice it safely.
Give them a clear visual, thirty seconds to think, and a partner to talk to. Structure changes everything.

🌎 Earth Day reminder: students can't protect what they can't describe.
Give them the vocabulary. Give them someone to talk to.
The science gets real when they can actually discuss it.
A quick reminder for the homestretch of the school year: Students will forget a lot of the specific content we taught them, but they will never forget how safe they felt speaking up in your classroom. Keep structuring those great conversations!
It is late April. State testing is looming and everyone is restless.
Reminder: You cannot test-prep a student into loving learning. Keep focusing on connection, give them safe spaces to talk, and remember that you are doing great.
You do not learn by just getting new information. You learn by making connections. If we want students to master academic vocabulary, we have to give them the structure and visuals to talk about it first. @VNGvisuals@Seidlitz_Ed
If your classroom’s 'turn and talk' routine feels like crickets, you're not alone. "Turn and talk" is a strategy. Structured conversations are a system. If we want multilingual learners to own academic language, we have to design the talk, not just encourage it. #QSSSA
Just wrapped up NSTA 26 and it got me thinking: What actually makes a new strategy stick after a conference?
For me, it is giving students a low-stress, safe space to try it out before we ever assess them. What is your go-to move when you get back to the classroom?
CoTESOL today has been amazing! The caliber of educators here is astounding. I’m proud to have the opportunity to share the @VNGvisuals and other @Seidlitz_Ed strategies with these teachers. The response has been humbling to say the least.
