“You’ve got to talk about the solutions. You’ve got to talk about immigration. Don’t let Republicans fill the blanks for you,” says Beatriz Lopez of @USImmHUB. Advocates and @RepEspaillat are talking about “the winning formula” after Suozzi, NY-03 victory
great, but pls don't ever try to legislate on immigration again. Stick to your go-to issues and let the experts - starting with Latino and Black members of Congress - deal with immigration reform.
I am on an outrage tour. I’m furious Republicans killed a bipartisan bill that could have helped fix the border and now I’m determined to make sure every voter knows about their hypocrisy.
So, key lessons? 1- Candidate quality matters (see also: Pilip, Mazi) 2- DON’T run cookiecutter, national Dem campaign in R trending districts 3- DO flip the script & go on offense on “bad” issues for Dems, like immigration.
For those tempted to say Suozzi won just by running as a Republican on immigration worth noting that to the camera in his key ad on the issue he pledged to "secure our border...but open paths to citizenship for those willing to follow the rules"
Congrats @Tom_Suozzi!! Seems @GOP haven’t learned their lesson that cruel, inhumane, anti-immigrant, draconian policies/messaging don’t work. Suozzi was tough but fair/humane, & favored a balanced approach: strong on border sec but expanding legal pathways- what Americans WANT!
There's also smart nuance to his immigration position bc he's not just taking security he's also talking about legalization for Dreamers, long-term undocumented etc
Suozzi speaks: "Despite all the lies about Tom Suozzi and the Squad. About Tom Suozzi being the Godfather of the migrant crisis. About Sanctuary Suozzi. Despite the dirty tricks, despite the vaunted Nassau County Republican machine. We won."
Trump told NRA Friday his mass deportation program would begin "within moments" of taking office. To do at scale would likely require 150-200k law enforcement officers, including a private army of red state ntl guard he'd deploy into blue states More here. https://t.co/khc6t72xmH
Higher immigration is also contributing to a bigger workforce, CBO says, boosting economic growth and increasing revenue by about $1 trillion over a decade: https://t.co/30e3VLSAOS
The math ain't working for Rs. I hope @SenSchumer is also trying to figure out how a number of Dems also voting against the bill DOES NOT look good. Don't bring this DOA bill to the floor. The math ain't mathing for any of the parties because it's a BAD BILL.
News — GOP leaders warned at lunch that Republican support for the border package is trending in the *wrong direction* at exactly the worst possible moment. But Thune & others emphasized that the text needs to come out before R’s make a final decision. w/ @bresreports
Today, we released our immigration principles that will guide our advocacy this year as we continue to fight for our communities and all immigrants.
While Republicans refuse to act and play politics on the border and stoke fear and hatred towards immigrants - the CHC remains focused on REAL comprehensive reform that will fix America’s broken immigration system, address root causes, and lead to a secure and orderly border.

What an incredible loss for both the LA Times and all readers. I hope you can continue to write and inform us all... your voice is critical in the political and immigration space.
I’ve been laid off from my job as a columnist for the LA Times today, with 100 of my best colleagues. It’s a dark day. I was the only Latina columnist for the opinion desk. Trump is looming & I’m author of Hatemonger. If you're hiring, I’m at [email protected]
No Democrat is against securing the border. No Democrat should refer to people seeking asylum and safety as people "swarming" the border. @SenFettermanPA should actually learn about what is being negotiated than spouting bullshit. STFU if you don't care to actually do your job.
Sen. John Fetterman, D-Penn., says American dream is threatened by 300,000 illegal immigrants swarming southern border.
'I honestly don’t understand why it’s controversial to say we need a secure border,' the senator told CNN anchor Jake Tapper.

I was glad to join @SenatorHick, @RepJasonCrow, @RepPettersen and @MikeJohnstonCO this morning to call on Congress to support Colorado’s cities as they grapple with an influx of migrant arrivals statewide.
Together we will get this done.
