Right after exposing how radical vegan activists and their allies in government manufactured this egg price crisis, the DOJ suddenly launches an antitrust investigation—against the producers.

The same government that slaughtered 150 million birds under Tom Vilsack’s USDA, imposed costly cage-free mandates through activist-backed laws, and allowed states like California to dictate interstate commerce through Prop 12 now wants to blame egg producers for the mess they created.

Meanwhile, look at where the real money and influence are.

Groups like Humane Society Legislative Fund (a political arm of HSUS) have been funneling money into political campaigns to ensure lawmakers pass their agenda.

These organizations aren’t charities—they are political operatives disguised as nonprofits, using tax-exempt status to push laws that hurt consumers and small farmers.

Their funding should be investigated, not the egg producers trying to survive the policies they forced through.

This isn’t about protecting consumers. It’s about shifting blame.

The same people who created this problem are now trying to cover their tracks by scapegoating the producers they regulated into crisis.

I want to expand on what I discussed with @SonnieJohnson on her show today and break down the real reasons behind skyrocketing egg prices.

Egg prices didn’t just skyrocket on their own. This crisis was manufactured by vegan extremists and the lawmakers who conspired with them to impose unnecessary and costly regulations on farmers.

And now, as prices spiral out of control, the same people responsible are pretending they had nothing to do with it.

For years, organizations like the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), Animal Wellness Action (AWA), Mercy for Animals, and Compassion in World Farming have lobbied for cage-free egg mandates—not to improve “animal welfare,” but to impose their anti-meat, anti-animal-agriculture ideology on the public. But they didn’t do it alone.

Lawmakers, many of whom took donations from these organizations, willingly passed laws that forced farmers into compliance, knowing it would drive up costs and shrink supply.

Wayne Pacelle, former HSUS president and now head of Animal Wellness Action, played a key role in pushing these laws.

Their strategy was simple: pressure individual states to enact cage-free laws, knowing that once enough states complied, they could reshape the national egg industry. California’s Proposition 12, Massachusetts’ Question 3, and similar laws in Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Michigan, Rhode Island, Colorado, and Arizona set strict space requirements for egg-laying hens, forcing farmers to overhaul their operations at enormous costs.

This wasn’t some grassroots movement. It was a well-funded, politically connected operation that worked hand-in-hand with legislators.

The Humane League (THL) received over $26 million from the Open Philanthropy Project between 2016 and 2022 to push for cage-free mandates worldwide.

Back in 2008, the egg industry spent $10 million fighting California’s Proposition 2, yet HSUS and its allies still managed to win, demonstrating just how much financial backing these activists had. How much of this money made its way into campaign contributions for lawmakers who backed these laws?

Then came the second blow: government-mandated mass culling of poultry.

Since 2022, the United States has faced repeated outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza. Instead of prioritizing biosecurity measures that could mitigate the spread of disease, the USDA, under Tom Vilsack, responded by ordering the slaughter of over 150 million birds, devastating the poultry population and gutting the egg supply.

Vilsack has been in charge of the USDA every single time this has happened. He was Secretary of Agriculture under Obama, now under Biden, and each time, the federal response has been the same: kill first, figure it out later. Instead of solutions that could preserve flocks and stabilize supply, the government’s answer has been mass extermination, leaving farmers scrambling and consumers paying the price.

Then, to make matters worse, the Supreme Court’s 2023 ruling in National Pork Producers Council v. Ross upheld California’s Proposition 12, dismissing claims that it violated the Commerce Clause.

This ruling allowed California to impose its animal welfare standards on all products sold within the state, regardless of where they were produced. Originally aimed at pork, Proposition 12 also mandated cage-free conditions for egg-laying hens, further entrenching the activist-driven regulations that have driven up production costs nationwide.

The Supreme Court’s decision emboldened other states to pass similar laws, further fragmenting interstate commerce and giving states unprecedented control over national food production.

Now, with egg prices nearing $5 a dozen, both state and federal governments are scrambling for solutions. Nevada has already suspended its cage-free law to stabilize the market.

Meanwhile, the USDA is planning to import eggs from other countries to artificially lower prices. But this is a band-aid on a bullet wound—the damage has already been done.

Farmers have already spent millions complying with unnecessary regulations. Entire poultry operations have been decimated by government-mandated cullings.

And now, instead of fixing the problem they created, bureaucrats want to flood the market with imported eggs, undermining domestic producers even further.

And that raises an even bigger question: What business do individual states have dictating how interstate commerce operates?

If eggs are being sold across state lines, why should California or Massachusetts have the authority to force their ideological agenda onto farmers in other states?

These laws don’t just affect the people who voted for them. They manipulate the entire market by restricting supply and forcing higher costs onto consumers everywhere.

The Supreme Court’s decision gave states free rein to dictate national agricultural policy through coercion, violating the intent of the Commerce Clause and further entrenching unnecessary regulations.

But this isn’t just about bad policies. Was this price-fixing?

When government agencies collude with activist nonprofits to manipulate supply and restrict competition, that is the definition of economic interference.

If lawmakers worked with vegan extremist groups to push laws that intentionally disrupted the market, there needs to be an investigation.

And what about the nonprofit status of these activist organizations?

They aren’t charities—they are political lobbying groups.

They take in millions, influence legislation, and disrupt entire industries while pretending to be advocacy groups. Their tax-exempt status should be challenged and revoked.

This was never about “helping animals” or “protecting consumers.”

It was about forcing a vegan ideology onto the public by making animal-based food too expensive to afford. The people behind these laws don’t just want cage-free eggs. They don’t want you eating eggs at all.

Egg prices didn’t skyrocket because of inflation alone. They didn’t rise because of some mysterious market failure. They went up because vegan activists pushed for laws that crippled the industry, and the government slaughtered millions of birds under the guise of disease control.

This crisis was engineered. And now, both sides of authoritarian governance—the activist groups that dictated how farmers must operate and the government agencies that wiped out the supply—are acting like they had nothing to do with it.
