For the first time in the Iran–US conflict, the US has stepped back from taking credit for a strike, claiming that Israel carried out the attack on Iran’s gas facility without its knowledge.

This matters because nearly 70% of Iran’s gas production lies in its southern region, and any disruption here has global consequences. In response, Iran has escalated tensions by targeting key energy sites in the Middle East, including a major gas facility in Qatar.

If gas production is disrupted, it doesn’t recover overnight, it can take weeks. This impacts not just LPG and LNG, but also fertilizer production, which depends heavily on natural gas. A similar disruption in the past led to fertilizer prices tripling, directly affecting farmers and food supply chains.

For India, this is a serious concern. Alternatives like Russia and China exist, but they come with higher costs, longer supply chains, and strategic trade-offs.

The signals are clear: rising escalation, shifting narratives, and increasing global impact.
