🎯🎯Kano Is Bigger Than Politics
There are moments when a people must pause and ask:
What kind of legacy are we leaving behind?
As a proud son of Kano, I write this out of genuine love and concern for our state—not anger, not blame.
For centuries, Kano stood as a shining symbol of leadership, commerce, scholarship, culture, and tradition across Africa. Our Emirate commanded respect. Our customs united us. Our people took pride in belonging to one of the greatest historic civilizations on the continent.
Today, many of us watch with heavy hearts as political differences slowly creep into spaces that should remain sacred and unifying.
One painful example is the uncertainty surrounding our cherished Durbar celebrations—especially Hawan Daushe, Hawan Nasarawa, and other historic processions that once attracted tourists, researchers, and admirers from far and wide.
For many of us, this is deeply personal.
I still remember the excitement whenever Sallah approached. The whole city came alive. We planned where to stand, which horse looked the most majestic, and who would secure the best view. The beautifully decorated horses, traditional attire, drums, praise singers, and the overwhelming sense of pride in our heritage are memories that remain fresh in my mind.
But today, I fear that an entire generation of our younger brothers and sisters may only hear stories about these traditions instead of experiencing them for themselves.
Culture is not preserved in books alone.
It survives when it is practiced, celebrated, protected, and passed on.
This should concern every lover of Kano, regardless of political affiliation.
Our culture belongs to all of us.
Our history belongs to all of us.
Our Emirate belongs to all of us.
Future generations will not ask which political camp we belonged to. They will ask whether we protected Kano's heritage or allowed it to weaken before our eyes.
Kano's greatness was built through cooperation, wisdom, sacrifice, and mutual respect—not by one person, one family, or one political party.
So I humbly ask:
When will our elders come together?
When will our leaders choose dialogue over division?
When will we all agree that Kano is bigger than politics?
We can disagree politically while remaining united culturally.
We can compete politically without weakening the institutions that define us.
Kano deserves better.
Our children deserve to witness the same vibrant heritage that we were privileged to enjoy.
May wisdom guide our leaders.
May unity return to our people.
May our cultural heritage flourish once again.
Because some things are bigger than politics.
And Kano is one of them.
