There’s a historical reason why Indians, in general, suffer from the ‘Scarcity Mindset’. It means if you don't grab an opportunity immediately, someone else will, and you will lose out. Immediate, tangible benefit of securing a resource overrides social norms like waiting in an orderly line or leaving unmonitored items alone.
We were poor but sovereign. Our nationalism was not performative. India was mocked even back then, but our response was real advancements in space and technology, not cheap rhetoric. It shocked the world and shut them up for a long time 🇮🇳

okay controversial opinion: the family or even the guy would've been less likely to make the same gesture for an Indian girl. She'd probably have been told to adjust instead. People value things more when they think they're above their league, & Indians take it to another level.
