India has ordered GitHub to block access to Bitchat, a messaging app made by Jack Dorsey that works without the internet or mobile network by using Bluetooth between nearby devices.

The government says apps like this can make it harder for police to track communication during protests and internet shutdowns.

The order comes as NEET-related protests continue, showing that offline messaging apps are now becoming a bigger challenge for governments than traditional internet-based platforms.
