There's a MtG tournament happening in Vegas this weekend at the same time as Evo, so while there will be two groups of nerds with backpacks and cargo shorts prowling the strip, one will be playing for the total prize pot of roughly 1/3 the value of a single backpack of the other.
If you can’t afford the $200 fee for EVO just go to the roulette table and bet $200 on red. If you win it’s free entry and if you lose your dumbass was not guessing right on throw loops anyway so it saved you the weekend.
Or just play a different card game competitively. You can literally not Day 2 an event in Riftbound and get a card worth $10k+.
Magic is very much casual commander now.
It's funny to see the Riftbound subreddit go from:
"This game is too expensive, I can't afford boxes and can't get lucky with a Riot preorder."
to
"These boxes are too cheap, I hate that Riot won't let me cancel my preorder."
In the space of 3 months.
Forgot to post this after the event but went 10-2-1 for 36th place with Annie at the Atlanta Regional! Excited to get my NA champs qualification. 2nd best Annie, shoutout to @Prismaticismism for winning the whole event and for the great list from Lille.

Story time.
I quit Magic few times, it was ALWAYS because after some time I just remembered that lands is a terrible system.
The last time I quit it, I went to GP Manchester (or Paris, I can’t remember). But after playing the entire event I realised that 33% of my games at that event were decided by either me or my opponent not having enough or having too many lands.
I realised I can’t be bothered to play a game where 1/3 of the game just doesn’t matter.
That was my last time with competitive Magic.
Edit:
For comparison, in my years of playing FaB and SWU I remember like 2-3 games overall when bad draws were fully deciding a game.
I went to pick up my DHL package the other day and was shocked to see Chovy dropping it off. I asked what he was doing here and he said that GENG gave him a job where he could finally deliver internationally. He then dropped my package, broke it, and said that he didn’t get the package he wanted.
The first BIG balance pass for Slay the Spire 2 is now out on the beta branch!! (Sorry infinite build lovers.)
It also includes a Phobia Mode, lots of bug & crash fixes, and--as you can see below--some cool new art and VFX! 💫

The year is 2016, I’ve just won a local PPTQ with my siege rhino midrange deck. Next month is the RPTQ in beautiful Berkeley California. I drive an hour to the bay, 0-2 drop but I am happy
The year is 2026 and I win a standard rcq with my ancestral recall deck. I want to die
