@harikondabolu beautifully explaining what I do for a living: “Diversity is for white people. I look in the mirror, I’m good. What we need are equity and justice.” And @rgay brings it home: “I don’t have a dream anymore. I have a plan.” #NYUMLKWeek 🔥
“With let-them-eat-cake obliviousness, today, the majority pulls the ripcord and announces ‘colorblindness for all’ by legal fiat. But deeming race irrelevant in law does not make it so in life.”

The Supreme Court's decision to strike down affirmative action, including in professional schools, like medical and nursing, will have detrimental consequences on Black health for generations to come. This is about life & death for us. Today, we are only 5% of physicians.
We should not need #AffirmativeAction. But we do. Because racism, particularly anti-Black racism, persists in our systems, policies, and institutions.
Until we change that, decision-makers must be made to make equitable decisions.
The #SupremeCourt ruling prevents that mandate.
Stereotypes around parenthood are having a lasting effect on the gender pay gap, which has not budged in 20 years, according to a new study by Pew. https://t.co/dblQqdeTcB
For those who need a refresher: Racism is bias + power.
That's why "reverse racism" is a lie. It's the structural power of whiteness that gives racism its fangs.
Organizational leaders: Once you realize the people urging you to act more transformatively for equity & justice were right all along, how do you reward & compensate their physical, intellectual, & emotional labor? How do you ensure you don't get the credit for that labor?
The College Board's decision to silence the essential voices and brilliant minds of @sandylocks, @nhannahjones & others is white supremacy in action.
Extremists will do anything to uphold the oppressive power structures that benefit them.
But our history will not be erased.
My new quote on my work email signature:
“We can disagree and still love each other unless your disagreement is rooted in my oppression and denial of my humanity and right to exist." James Baldwin
We often focus on individuals when we need to focus on the oppressive system. People operate in ways the system rewards them to behave. That’s how people of the same identities oppress each other.
If you’re going to quote & authentically honor my father on #MLKDay, commit to embracing a ‘World House’ perspective.
Determine how you’ll disrupt unjust systems & thinking with nonviolent strategy.
Support policies that reflect higher consciousness.
Make no excuses for hate.
As you commemorate #MLKDay, please remember my mother, as well. She was the architect of the King Legacy and founder of @TheKingCenter, which she founded less than three months after Daddy was assassinated. Without #CorettaScottKing, there would be no MLK Day.

When you learn about yet another hate crime, like the shooting at #ClubQ , do donate some $$, ask your #DEI Council to plan an event, and get overwhelmed as you try to figure out what to do next? You're not alone. Learn a better way with me: https://t.co/TmhncBveC2
I’m sad about losing this platform that’s been invaluable as a gathering place for marginalized communities, and for sharing #DEI learning. Maybe someday I’ll buck up and join Mastadoon, but meanwhile I’m launching a newsletter! Sign up to stay in touch: https://t.co/tPe181dyDD
